If the weight of the parapet was the reason for the collapse, it can be salvaged. But if there are other underlying issues, then the integrity of the building has to be evaluated. Better to get a professional to look at it.

He was the one that designed it and he knew it would carry concrete fascia right from the onset of the work. And he is the one handling it

I intend to cut the small arches at the entrance porch of the building... So that it is straight (square 90°)

Can someone suggest parapet designs.. Or post links!

What could have been responsible for this kind of collapse, expert in the house?
This walls were constructed with 6inches block?
I could see that in the last pic.

You used 6inches blocks.
Were the blocks strong enough? What about the bonding? Was the mortal mixed accordingly?

Wow, this is crazy. Are you sure he is Architect or draft man, I sabi everything. Most architects work with structural engineers before arriving at conclusion. Man you do a big mistake, with all the information on this platform you still let someone do this to your project. Please if you don’t mind black list the name of Architect here so others will be aware of him, not to fall victim.

He is an architect, a registered one for that matter. He is just too stubborn and he believes he knows it all

Stop this.
You shouldn't spoil the integrity of others here.
You could see the size of blocks used, the load placed upon it couldn't get carried.
The structure wasn't constructed accordingly in the first place.

Yeah, the 3D. That's the only thing they can offer you. I doubt if there's any structural plan

I also challenged him on using 6 inches block, he said he had done one before with 6 inchesbblock and the house is still standing well.

Before collapsing. No column/pillars anywhere. They just put the long-spanning lintels on 6-inch blocked walls
Look at the spans of these beams. They ain't in proportion to the block walls carrying them in the first place.

This should av been a red flag in the first place sir.
Learning is a continuous process, it ends when we die.
Anyone who doesn't yield to learning is bound to collapse just as the case of that structure.
I hate the words you said Ur architect used.

You shouldn't have believed him.
According to our tutors when we were in sch. The only areas we were permitted to use 6inches blocks were areas that the walls are said to be non load bearing.
Non loading bearing walls are walls that are not carrying any load.
Even if you were to use it, such block must be specially moulded for such purpose.

Stop all work for now.

Get an independent consultant/inspector to access the integrity of the structure and the likely cause of the failure.

If you must do it over again, I’d suggest you introduce columns to carry the weight of the parapet.

There might be more to this than just the weight of the “precast” parapet.

Please cut it as long as they’re not structural.

I find it distasteful.

You probably know this but what I’ve learnt from builders on here is to use 9” for external perimeter and use 6” for interior partitions. To be sincere, most, not all, Nigerian blocks are pieces of shyte, structurally.

I hope to introduce a line of blocks made to international standards next year.
