Hello Good People.

This thread is about sharing your career transition experience and how it has been so far the merits, demerits, unique instances and subsequent challenges.

Here are samples of what to tell:

Sample 1
My first degree was a Bsc in Physics, then i switched to HRM by doing a PGD in Human Resources Management, Msc in Human Resources Management and a CIPM. I work as a talent acquisition specialist.

Sample 2:
I read English but had to go back to read Law after 5 years of not getting a job. I went back at age 25 and graduated at 30.

Sample 3:
Dropped out from Microbiology to relocate to Germany to read Computer science, I have been a Software engineer ever since then.

TLDR: Give a career transition insight using a personal or real life experience.

Course: Business Administration
Job: Professional Makeup Artiste
Merit: It was pretty easy to learn and i was inspired by a friend who was already into it and making it big.
Demerit: Getting customers can be hard and you need to be ready to travel frequently.

I studied Elect-Elect (power & machine option) & now I am working as a Field Technician in Telecoms. Hopefully to work with TCN someday coz that's my dream.

I hope this thread gives hope to the hopeless. While you await your dream job, get a skill that can keep you going in this part of the world.

captainbangz:
Sir, an EEE student here. I am thinking about going for telecommunications and Electronics. What's has your experience been like in the telecom industry?. I have two uncles who work at TCN, why TCN?

Telecom/Electronics is diverse, with more of opportunities. I can say it works hand in hand with ICT.

I studied Elect-Elect because I really nursed interest in power (electricity). The likeness got kindled few times I felt electric shock as a boy (at JSS 1 or 2 then) & why the NEPA can't give people enough electricity knowing fully that importance of light in our day-to-day activities cannot be overemphasized. Unlike many then, I needed no one to tell me about Science, Art & Commercial classes coz I had made my finding about the class I would attend for my dream. My main interest lies in having practical knowledge in power generation. Poor me, admission stuff dealt so much with me & wasted some of the years, that I had to forgo Varsity for Polytechnic. On different occasions, I rejected courses like Dietetics, MicroB, Maths, Physics & Electronics that I was offered. Till now, my eyes are still on power generation. If possibly my fate doesn't want it, & I have a child who has interest in the same, I would spend my last card to get him/her there.

Four year in University studying business administration.

After two years of peanut salary, decide to go learn mechanic (truck)... I did that for three years.

Was able to combine the two skills and bring out something meaningful.

Am currently a successful spare part dealer

I never change career.

But why are women so biased.

When David West killed prostitutes (women who slept with both married and single men for money) in Portharcourt, women came out to protest the killing and called men different unprintable names. Girls in general were not condemned or abused for being prostitutes.

Now, a little prostitute has killed a man and instead of condemning or shaming the prostitute for killing her customer just like they did in David West's case, they're condemning the man for patronising the prostitute as a married man. The focus now is on the marital status of the victim and not why he was killed. Some women, mostly married women, are even praying for other men who engage in extra marital affair to die like the victim.

You're a big time fashion designer and you still want to waste your time to study a course with high employment rate when you should work on developing yourself more and be an employer of others in your field.

Mine was Accounting, went back to school to study Counselling Psychology because of my interest in mental health and presently working in a psychiatric hospital while pushing for a specialty in Clinical Child Psychology.

I love the field I work in as it is very exciting, some much to learn and the joy it invokes when I see patients/clients I work with are making progress is indescribable.
