When Ayo's wife travels out of town, something he never considers comes up and he finds himself enamored to the pretty daughter of his child carer.

In what seems to be a premeditated move, Kate encourages him on. But something unexpected happens and what looks like sweet experience suddenly turns into a nightmare.

Episode One - The Nanny's Daughter

By six-thirty in the morning on Tuesday, I was already dressed for work in a smashing black suit. My wife, Rachel, had officially traveled to Abuja for a three-day conference.

Before she left, she made arrangement with Mrs. Edet, our long-standing nanny that she would be coming around in the day to cater for the children. It was a simple arrangement: she would come around, prepare their meal, bath them, prepare them for school (which was quite close by), bring them back from school after closing and remain at home until evening when I would return from work.

My wife had dropped the two kids with Mrs. Edet before when they were infants, so she was well known to us as a caring care-giver. Besides, she had proved to be trust-worthy and reliable.

The doorbell rang at precisely few minutes to seven. I went to it. A young lady was there.

"Good morning, sir," she greeted. "You are Mr. Ayo Johnson?"

"Yes, good morning."

"I'm Kate, daughter of Mrs. Edet, the nanny you were expecting."

I was surprised to hear that. "I see. And where's your mum?"

She smiled apologetically. "Sorry, just this morning, she developed some fever and is indisposed. Since we're on break and I'm available, I told her I would come around."

I couldn't believe my ears. "Mrs. Edet is sick? But, just yesterday, my wife discussed with her and we expect her here."

"She could not make it. That's why I'm here."
Just then, my phone rang. It was my wife on the line from Abuja.

"Excuse me," I said as I moved to answer the call. "Hello, darling?"

"Good morning, honey. Mrs. Edet just called me now. She's down, but she said she's sending her first daughter. Her name is Kate."

"She's already here," I replied shortly.

"Oh, that's good. Mrs Edet said we should not worry; that Kate is up to the task."

I grunted. "Okay. If you say so."

"Yes, darling. Just explain what she'll do to her."

"Alright, dear." We said few more things before she disengaged the line.

"Alright, Kate. Come inside."

"Thanks, sir."

I took her to the bedroom of the two kids. Ann, aged five, had already woken up while two-years old Elizabeth still slept on.

"Daddy!" Ann said.

"Hello, angel. Kate here is from Mrs. Edet and she will taking care of you." I turned to Kate.

"So, Kate, you'll take over from here."

I showed Kate the bathroom and the kitchen, locked my bedroom and was off.

The drive from Ojodu to my law office at Ikeja was very smooth, although the traffic had started building up. I had become a partner in the law chamber, courtesy of my father who was a senior advocate of Nigeria.

* * *

The day was busy. I went to the State high court in Ikeja to represent a client. It was a case about altercation on land and a landed property.

At the end of the proceedings, the case was adjourned for seven weeks. I was back in the law office by three p.m. Oh, what a tiring day. Well, things went right all the same.

I drove home somewhat frazzled, tired but too keyed up to feel like getting some sleep just yet. A phone call from Rachel earlier in the day certainly hadn't helped my state of mind much.

She had called my office long distance for no other reason than to give me some words of caution. She had stated that I should return home early and not leave the kids for too long with the nanny's daughter.

Somehow, Rachel bemused me. As a career lady herself who was always on the move, I was much more with the kids than her. Now, she was making it look like I should be the 'home man.'

Of course, that ploy would not work. As my guys would say, 'ko le werk.'

I had not really felt like discountenancing her posture. If I had hung up on her she would have called back. If I had tried to refute her, she would dwell on sermonizing which I would find monotonous.

I had allowed her to say all she had to say before she hanged up.

So it was hardly surprising that as I walked in my front door by few minutes after eight in the evening, my brain was fixated on one thing and one thing only. I needed a drink.

Kate was sitting on the couch when I came in, watching a cable musical channel on the television. My thoughts of having a drink were temporarily shoved to the side as I got a look at her.

I did not realize she had come with extra clothing until now. She was dressed in a pair of tight cotton shorts and a midriff baring tee shirt. Her stomach was smooth and unlined, with a gold stud threaded through her belly button.

Her shoes had been kicked off, leaving her feet bare, and she was sitting in elegant style, a position that allowed her shorts to creep upwards, revealing an enticing amount of upper thigh.

Goodness, she was cute, I thought, feeling a wave of lust sweep over me as I took in her form. This was certainly not the first time I had had such a feeling about a lady - a sultry lady that could take away the breath.

On the contrary, I had always enjoyed looking at such a lady, particularly in the last one year or so when Rachel became more absent at home.

I had never been the very flirtatious with ladies, however. Despite my marital challenges, I was basically an honest, decent guy. I was far from lecherous, at least in the overt sense of the word.

Maybe that was why it appeared my wife was taking me for granted.

Kate gave me a weak smile as the door closed behind me and I set my briefcase down.

"Good evening, sir."

"Good evening. How're you?"

"Fine."

"Where are the kids?" I asked her.

"They've gone to bed already." She nodded. "I read them a story and they went right to sleep by eight. They were such nice kids."

I did not know if I should thank her for the compliment. I went to the children's room. The two kids were indeed sleeping peacefully.

I nodded and returned to the sitting-room.
I left it at that and walked over to the bar in the corner of the sitting room. I took off my suit jacket, draping it over one of the bar stools and then took off my tie, draping it over the suit jacket.

I unbuttoned the top button on my dress shirt and then took down a bottle of exotic wine. I poured a triple shot of the wine in, added some ice and some vermouth, and then began shaking.

As I was straining my concoction it into the wine glass, I could sense that Kate was watching me.
Ok
"How was work today, sir?" she asked.

"Oh fine. Everything went well," I replied. "If you are not in a hurry to go back home, you can have some drinks".

My heart was beating as I said this. Somehow, I wished she would not reject my offer.
