Unfortunately, it's the masses that will be at the receiving end of this regime's maladministration, recklessness and wickedness towards the masses!

Una don collect bribe from them tire, now you want to milk them totally!

Because it's not possible for a company since inception not to pay tax and all those concerned in collecting tax just looked on undecided

Know this today, if you are currently living in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere!
Oga, the accusation is on Value Added Tax(VAT) and not income tax.

I fault DSTV in the strongest terms anyway. They are chief extortionist yet they don't pay tax. Káà kulu fún yín ó. The only problem here is that DSTV does not have any problems with this development at all because they will still use it to extort the masses and give returns to the Federal government. They only throw jabs at one another in the open, they are partners in crime in the dark. 100% on the masses, masses on God.

I am not a fan of this government, but if you can afford DSTV you aren't one of the poor masses.

No Nigerian company or enterprise, small, medium or large can try this in South Africa

In fairness to DSTV, even with the 'increases' we still pay less than they do in South Africa...indeed than in many African countries.

DSTV compact in SA costs 11,710 naira. In Nigeria, it is N7900 per month for example.

This has nothing to do with increased tariffs. It simply means that Multichoice refused to remit the VAT they charged from their subscribers

I doubt most of the masses can afford DSTV....even at basic package.

There are 2.5 million DSTV subscribers in Nigeria, out of a payTV market of 5.2 million and there are 200 million of us.

I doubt most Nigerians have a DSTV package. It is the privilege only a tiny minority can affrod.

There are two sides to every story. No one has heard the DSTV side of the story, yet we are castigating the company. How many of us castigating willingly pay tax sef, if not deducted at source as part of PAYEE.

I know full well that often times, people in government who have no clue of the terms of agreements signed etc, cry blue murder only to investigate deeper and find things are not as they seem. This has happened soooo many time in the oil sector with sensational claims of IOC's owe $30bln and this and that and they usually end up being false, because our unlearned senators and govt officials dont even understand the agreements that were signed.

People no dey gree understand o. They will come for you very soon, when all it requires is a google search. Argument will be that is minimum wage same as those places, but is that DSTV fault? Does the inability of the government to pay its workers a fair wage reduce the cost to DSTV of providing the service?

“They (foreign companies) do with impunity in Nigeria what they dare not try in their countries of origin,” the tax agency lamented.

“The issue with Tax collection in Nigeria, especially from foreign-based Companies conducting businesses in Nigeria and making massive profits is frustrating and infuriating to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). “Regrettably, Companies come into Nigeria just to infringe on our tax laws by indulging in tax evasion.

FIRS - a typical Nigerian government parastatal.
Filled with unqualified, underperforming, incompetent, and fraudulent officials in the higher echelons of the agency.

Which country's tax agency oversees a terrain where they are owed over 300 million dollars by a single business entity?
Was FIRS sleeping all these past years resulting in this type of crazy Tax debt?

There is no valid explanation FIRS can give that exonerates them of incompetency on this matter. It is crazy.

FIRS is right when they say these foreign countries do here what they can't do in other countries - and that's because the Tax agencies in those countries are run by professionals who are actually qualified and competent for the job. Disgrace.

They must have been bribing their way out of tax throughout the years, Paying criminals to look else where, now the chips is down, those criminal has gone with what is supposed to be part of the real payment. They may have used a quarter of the money in Bribing.

1.8 Trillions will definitely send them out market

Anyone who believes this does not know what FIRS does to businesses.
Firstly, they are only now trying to digitize the process.
There is no reason why they should not have an online portal where companies can file their tax returns. It is largely manual.
You need to go to their office monthly to file tax returns.
Even after filing for years, because they do too much paper work, they'll wake up one day and claim that your business has not paid any tax since inception. It will now be on you to start providing proof of payment from inception.
They will fine you for any period you are unable to show filing for.
This FIRS position is just bogus! They want to milk DSTV/Multichoice dry.

So if they didn't open their financial and other books, how did you access their taxes and for what year?

This govt and half baked stories.

I agree that most companies underpay their taxes. But the truth remains that it is the Nigerian tax officers that usually enable these things.

How much do you buy petrol, gas, foodstuff, bread, airline ticket? How much is sardine? 2003 corolla that was 1.2m is now 2.3m and above.
How then do you expect dstv not to increase prices considering they hold franchises from abroad ($$$$) and run increased local expenses same as every other business?
Abi don't you know dollar is now 510?
Infact dstv has been quite reasonable in with their price increases.
Blame your gov for the messed up state of the economy instead and nta that cannot give you content despite all the billions spent on them.
