Power generation in Nigeria dropped below the 4,000 megawatts mark on Tuesday amid the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The total generation in the country stood at 3,958.7MW as of 6am on Tuesday, down from 4,270.7MW on Monday, according to data obtained from the Nigerian Electricity System Operator.

On Monday, the peak generation stood at 4,611MW, while the lowest generation was 3,732.1MW, the NESO data showed.

The total energy generated on Monday was 100,974.45MW, out of which 99,272.98MW was sent out.

Although the NESO data did not state the cause of the decline in generation on Tuesday, gas and transmission constraints are the major challenges facing power stations in the country.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company, in a goodwill message to its customers celebrating this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, assured customers of adequate power supply throughout the period of the celebration and beyond.

The power firm gave the assurance that its technical team would be on hand to clear faults and resolve customer complaints all through the period of the holiday.

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company also expressed its commitment to uninterrupted services during the holidays.

The Chief Operating Officer of the company, Mr John Ayodele, highlighted the need for strict observance of safety precautions such as proper supervision of children to prevent electrical accidents, not cooking or trading under high-tension wires and not engaging quacks to fix faults.

“IBEDC is committed to ensuring that its customers enjoy uninterrupted service during the holiday as much as it is within our control,” he said.

Power generation companies had earlier this month lamented that the country’s available electricity capacity had dropped by about 3,000MW.

This country is unbelievable!
Since 1999 , after billions spent, all we hear is power generation alternating between 4000 MW! I mean within this period, countries like South Africa, Ethiopia and Egypt have all made significant progresses on this front! Power generation and distribution that's almost a non issue in most Southern African and East African countries? Note that I'm not even talking of Asia or South America! Just build a power station and construct transmission lines to homes and offices! That's all! That's what has turned into rocket science for Lugards Nigeria! Tufiakwa!!!

Thought Silva a minister said they discovered a large place with so much gas!?....
What kind of leadership is this?
Very confused lots always shifting the blame and riding on a high horse of propaganda & debts accrued from money borrowing ideology.

We have enough resources to be self sufficient from mineral to human resources.

edoairways:

Even if a young man lead such position, the problem still remains
Your narrative has no credence....so we don't argue on this campaign ideology for young visionary leadership tell me your sincere choice between:
# Voting young visionary leaders and keeping them on their toes to carry out their responsibilities for been elected for.
Or
# Voting in same circle of old incompetent leaders we have presently and in the past then trying to make them do what they were elected for with protests and agitations as it's been experienced in Nigeria.
Kindly make your option known now on this public space
.....

I'll go with the first option.
edoairways:

The leader is not the problem but his followers. Even if you put Angels to run the affairs, you will still get the same result.
So the leaders we've had in the past and presently are good but it's the followers that have been bad? SMH @you.....moreso you couldn't answer my question based on the main reason you first quoted me but decided to respond with another trashy reply...kindly move on ...I prefer a productive convo not one for quoting sakes.

We need young visionary leadership.

When shall we get it right with electricity. So no gas storage plant that can serve for a week at our GenCos.

It's expected that there will be downtime in supplies, storage will cover up. Maybe that's complex than our national wisdom and understanding anyway

People keep comparing Nigeria to Ghana...

Ghana has 24/7 power supply and this is why companies are moving to Ghana to establish their business... Give it time and Ghana will be mentioned immediately after South Africa when it comes to infrastructural development....

These days, you barely see musical video shot in Nigeria except you want a low budget video...

The government of Buhari doesn't care about foreign investors because they are comfortable with taking loans. Because they have not done anything to encourage foreign investors and they are killing local investors too.

The lack of spare parts and local industries to manufacture machine spare parts will lead to the failure of every machine in Nigeria.
It's not today that power generation has been poor.
Since before I was born.

See that Nigeria is an audio giant. They are giving Benin and Niger free electricity because if they don't they will dam the river Niger and render the Kanji dam useless.
