We have all done stupid things as students. It is not every stupid thing a student does that will warrant withdrawal of certificate. The student also worked for that certificate, paid school fees etc so it doesn't mean the school can just wake up one day and say we want to withdraw your certificate. This girl was earlier declared passed. If she self confessed to a malpractice which is debatable because she might as well bought that cloth like that and she can claim it wasn't meant for social media that they all agreed in her class to wear something crazy. While this news is yet to be confirmed, did you read the press statement when the panel was constituted, that her scripts will be checked from 100L.

The inscription on the shirt triggered the investigation, it's not the sole basis for whatever will be meted to her.

UNIBEN began investigating all the results of female student who wore ” Aggressive Malpractice” shirt during her sign out parade.

Earlier last week, the management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) ordered that all the results of the student be investigated after she wore a sign out shirt with the inscription “aggressive malpractice brought me this far” during her signing out parade.

This came after a video of the said student identifies as Peace Ufuoma, from the department of Microbiology, went viral a few days ago.

The institution made a statement two weeks ago on the Thursday, that the decision to probe the student in question’s results was taken at a meeting that held on the 13th of July.

A news reaching Siggy correspondent as of today says that the female student in question has been ordered to rewrite all her papers from her Level two till the end of Level four. This sounds very heartbreaking but the school management is of the opinion that Peace Ufuoma be used as a scape goat to tell every student of the University of Benin that examination malpractices are not allowed within her walls.

My chief, I totally understand what you're saying sir, but we are taking law here and due process. I am talking as a member of the student disciplinary committee in my institution. Do you know that even oral confession to a crime doesn't necessarily mean you would be convicted for the crime, it has to be backed by solid evidence, if not people would be paid to confess to a crime they didn't do especially our mothers in order to set another person free. If you go and confess to a crime, you will be detained and asked to produce evidence you actually did it. It is that evidence coupled with your confessional statement that would be taken to the judge, because if they don't do that, 3 months later you may claim you were tortured to confess and want to withdraw your confession, by then the real culprit would have been long gone. In conclusion sir, that shirt alone is not admissible. Although she may be punished, for other offences like irresponsible behavior etc, but not malpractice sir, I hope you get my point.

From what you wrote from your first post, uniben is doing this to her as part of investigating her. She can only sue uniben and win if she comes out in flying colours after the investigation. What she needs from you people is prayers and not this "get a good lawyer, get a good lawyer " which isn't going to help her this very moment

You are correct but not absolutely, don't forget that university certificate bears that the student has been found worthy in character and learning. I seriously think that her character does not deserve the certificate.

if you write on your shirt that you are a yahoo boy. You can be taken into custody for questioning. Your source of income can be verified, your banks can be searched. If you are innocent, you will be free.

Now she wrote that she did malpractice, The equivalent search is for her to prove that she wrote the exams by writing them again. If she passes, she is free.

If the inscription on your shirt does not offend the law of the governing body or country as the case would be if its yahoo, you have no right to be taken into custody so long as it doesn't cause any harm or disrepute to any organization. If you write that you are a cultist on your shirt, that is a direct message to the public. So the burden of proof is on you to show that you are not a cultist in a society that outlaws cultism, and even then, you could be guilty of constituting public nuisance.

Her inscription brings disrepute to the integrity of UNIBEN and all graduates who plan to present their certificates in foreign countries. The burden of proof is on her to show that it was a prank. And even then, that was an expensive one capable of creating bottlenecks for other students holding uniben certificate in countries that are compelled to doubt the integrity of their results due to rumoured malpractices.

If you see someone post on social media that he hacked into a certain banks database and took money from individual accounts, I'm sure you won't feel secure with your money in that bank, I'm sure others like you, who don't know if it is a joke or not, would withdraw huge sums from that bank, I'm sure the bank will suffer losses resulting from public distrust and poor confidence, I'm sure you agree the bank won't take that kind of joke lightly.
