Help! Is This Query Letter Necessary? Absenteeism From Saturday’s Exercise Session
My Boss is at it again, this time he gave more than 16 staff queries for absenteeism from Saturday’s Exercise Session, which is not part of our employment agreement.

On Saturday, we are mandated to come to the office from 6: 00 am to 8: 00 am for one hour of exercise.
I don’t turn up for Saturday’s Exercise Session due to the security and transport fare challenge

Saturday’s exercise session is taking a toll on me financially, I spend N600 daily to and from work, Monday to Friday. My take-home-pay is not up to Nigeria’s minimum wage
Adding Saturday to my transport budget would drain me financially

I am mindful of the security situation in my area. On more than one occasion, people have been robbed/killed at an early hour in the morning, giving rise to fear and security consciousness
My question is, why are Nigerian Boss’ this Heartless? Was it perversity we longed to address this? What hope lies in secrecy if Boss’ continue to treat employees like a slave?

What will you lose with the query? Just quietly be on the look out for a new job and when you get one, hand the boss your resignation letter to his face. You can't imagine the satisfaction you'll have.

Started out working for some of these kind of companies... Pay is always poor, demand on your time is always high, work life balance is nonexistent, motivation is always at it's lowest ebb.

Best way to leave a job is when they least expect it especially if you've been newly saddled with a new role/responsibility/project that your Boss will almost go down on his kneels like mine almost did.

If you were in that meeting and you didnt disagree or state your issues with the pronouncement.
I think you exaggerated your salary as a firm that insist people exercise must be an A List firm.

I think we need to understand if there are other factors involved before making a general conclusion.

If it is as explained, then verbal warming could first be given since it was a general agreement by all staff.

The staff involved should have approached his/her boss for permission not to be present. Not attending without permission is wrong.

Most people in this forum will not take it.

You should respond to the query with your valid defence instead of whipping up emotions from strangers on the www.

Did you preinform your line supervisor that you won't be showing up, with reason(s)?

Your employment offer might not state that you would be expected at work on Saturdays, but it might have a clause that empowers the company to seek your presence at extraordinary functions

Posting your company's internal communication with a list of some of your colleagues is gross unprofessionalism.

Again, you should get more than a query.

As an employee working in a private organization this are one of the many things you will experience.

Is now left for you to accept or leave the job if you aren't cool with the conditions.

Is exposing your colleague names really necessary? If they finally sack you now you will be forming innocent
