Now, Nigeria can boast of internally generated revenue, IGR, from non-oil sectors such as :
1. Mass kidnapping of School Children
2. BANDITRY
3. Herdsmen
4. Boko Haram
5. Corruption.

I LIKE THAT.

Revenue comes mainly from taxes. Nigeria government needs to spread the tax net and plug all holes.
tax from where, when we provide nearly everything for ourselves....its not done that way....am paying for light I don't see, paying vigilante to watch over the neighborhood because of poor security, coughing out 400k to drill borehole for portable water and so on a so forth. We should pay taxes so that the elite will have wives and concubines in every part of the country and world or pay taxes that will be used to fight boko haram that is supported by the northerners. Guy park well please

This is an indication that Nigerians don't pay tax but want govt to provide paradise and utopia out of thin air. Smaller African countries in terms of GDP and population raise revenue of over $100bn out of their economy to use for public works, education and healthcare investment.

But Nigeria raise mere $30bn and ignorant Nigerians want to have world class everything out of that. Funds that cannot give a country like USA adequate fire fighting services.

South Africa will invest our entire budget on education and still have another $100bn left for other things. Yet they still have hungry looters and poorly educated people.

We are doing ourselves bad if we don't create a working tax system, age of excess oil funds is over

It is an indication that the government doesn't enforce tax collection and discourage private investment and development.

Under the British government, Nigeria had a cattle tax programme, that was removed by Aminu Kano and Amadou Bello during independence.

What were you expecting? When you made a cattle herder a president? If things were really going the way they should, buhari himself knows that even in his wildest dreams and loftiest imagination... He can't make a local government chairman, talk less of a president.

It's a shame..

Yet despite very low revenue, they are adding more debt...

https://wwwfamp

Because the low revenue means they have to take loans to pay for everything...and because we are only taxing 30% of the taxable population.

If we did not take loans...and I hate the idea of loans...by now salaries would not have been paid for over 48 months, if not more, for example.

Why allowing FULANI herdsmen to kill and destroy people's farmlands?
Why using the military to intimidate opposing voices?

1.First, the cattle tax monies would have mostly gone to the Northern region under our revenue sharing system

2.They removed the tax because they were politicians..and that was what their constituents wanted, and because the North was making a lot of cash from groundnuts to minerals then.

3.Nigerians, even under colonial rule, did not like taxes at all. Or what was the Aba tax riots of 1929 about? There was even a brief anti-tax uprising in the SW sometime during the civil war if I recall (may be wrong).

4.The thing is, Nigerians don't like taxes. And as the report shows , if we want more revenue, we would have to raise taxes from everyone, including cattle. But that would make every Nigerian...from the North to the South...angry. So..loans it is. and oil revenue. And anything else we can sell.
