I just made decisions to go for programming and probably full stack that would enable me get a remote job.
I’m an idealistic person so I would love something that would be able to make me develop my ideas. E.g in 2014, I wrote down in my jotter the need to create a digital money saving app. I told a friend in 2015 but he’s afraid he didn’t wanna get involved with anything money. I think that same year, piggybank was created.
In 2016, I still shared this to a friend who went behind me and Partner with a tech bro to create their own company here in Lagos. I won’t disclose his name cos it’s a well known coy.

So please my bosses, I need help, I want to learn things that would make it easy to transfer money from a phone to another phone through our bank account of course, even though I might eventually end up partnering with another developer , I want to learn these things too at least be very good at something.

I need help cos I want to focus on this.

Please help me out, advice, links, leads, critics is needed.

With the same exact post go and post it in programming section, you might not get many audience here cause this section is meant for Data science.

I will suggest you learn software engineering, be proficient in it, you can enroll in a academy if you have the money it will fastrack your journey and if you can't afford academy enroll in self develooment it will cost you data, discipline, focus and self encouragement to push on, this might take you a full year to be good without distractions.

All you need to know about the skills to learn to become software engineer is on nairaland programm section or better you browse it on google then add nairaland to the back then many thread on the page will be open to you, also get use to linkedin search for those in that field and start following them.

I'm just thinking some of you that need to add a professional certifications to your resume, you can try the DA 100 by Microsoft which gives you certification in Data Analyst.

Getting a data analytics certification has been running through my mind lately.

I did some web surfing on good certifications to enroll and stumbled on compTIA Data+

Please do you have insights on this; how valuable and pivotal it can be for the IT (data analytics) space?

Thanks.

if you're into data science, Facebook and Netflix are massively hiring.
It's all over LinkedIn. And some of their staff on Linkedin are willing to accept your CV via their inboxes if you're quite good.
You can just search on LinkedIn or Google.

All the best.

Nahhhh, not sure it’s valuable.
AWS certification or use of softwares like Tableau associate cert or PBI that gives you a badge of an analyst could be a strong foot.

Go for ORACLE SQL certs
Oracle in my opinion may be good but most big organizations are moving to postgreSQL
That’s if no the most robust database today especially when it comes to real time analytics

SQL is SQL especially for beginners level. But only Oracle has an internationally recognized CERTIFICATE that will help the recruiter to trust your ability for entry level roles. You can learn Postgre and others which also depends on what your company will be using

Hmmmm!

I get your point, but you need to be attentive and study the trend of activities and businesses. I wish the kind of sources of information available today were there when I left the university, honestly, the kind of the journey of the Israelite most of us took wouldn't have happened.

You should realise now (but I think you dont) that the days of paying extravagant, bogus, amd ridiculous amount for certificates are getting over. We are moving into "show us" what you can do before we employ you. It is getting clearly that university certs esp for tech and engineering degrees are absolutely useless. I can count the number of people who abandoned studies in Ivy leagues to focus on their works cos they realised certificates they will get are craps.

And recently, private certifications are getting axed out too. Unless Oracle do something fast, it will be beheaded too.

Again, open sources are beating mercilessly those private firms collecting ridiculous fees from every added features or upgrades. Maybe an open source needs to get serious to break windows' jaw and I see it happening soon because windows is a ridiculous OS which has refused to get it right many times. IOS may be hard for now.

Cyber security is another issue. Russia has announced that its only open sources or indigenous software products they will accept. Meaning that all the Microsoft, apple, Oracle, and bla bla bla are getting hacked soon. And many nations will go the Russia way esp Arabs, N. Korea, China, and other opponents.

This is why I said you must know the reason for what is happening, else you will make a mistake why making decisions.

But I see that Africa is a snail and wont attempt to lead. But these nations given out jobs are going to move in faster. He who has ears, let him use them now and not be caught unaware.

I would follow this advice. I can see that this guy is actually in the industry and he knows what he is saying. Keep it up bro.

Bless you for this thread. I paid attention to it recently to see how far you have covered cos I want to write about this subject, but since you have smashed many of the areas, I am just going to let whoever is smart to keep following you. It shows that you are "balling" and flying higher...and not bothered by peanuts from trainings some jacka.sses would have asked since your pay is flowing. And you know the market is huge and it cannot affect you for releasing info.

Bro, well done. God bless you.

The question asked by the original poster has not been answered "Which SQL certification" should he go for. I agree with what both of you said concerning Postgre SQL and I never said he should ignore Postgre sql but there is no recognized certification for that and HRs who are the door way to jobs just want something to convince them of your skill set .

In my own little understanding, certification is good but if there is none for now, the person should just leverage on his experience via projects he/she has completed by including the link on CV. At least, that can show that you have the skillset in the meantime while you look for best certification for that.
