I'm opening this thread as a way of documenting the process of raising an all-male Ross 308 Broiler strain from Agrited.

Raising DOC can be stressful but exciting especially if you have the passion for rearing�

With an appreciable knowledge from rearing cockerel (that are so agressive and snaps at any food in sight), for 6 months before maturity and rearing some Ross 308 strain from Sayed ( which took like three months to mature), I feel it's time to experiment with an all-male Ross.
So, I began my search here on NL but got a little info on my quest.

Why all male? Well, from observation, buyers in my area prefer the cock to the hen which are usually priced lesser! After all, they all consume the same food and moreso, my last stock had just 19 males (cocks).

So my search began.
Let me say here that the impression I have is that it's not possible to have an all-male Ross 308.
Eventually, I reached out to one of the vendors here on NL to get me a Marshall All maleline but, out of curiosity I asked if it was possible for me to have all-male Ross 308 and he said Yes!

Agreed on a price and did the transfer on Monday August 16 for a carton. I had to ask him more than once to confirm their true status which he affirmed as positive

So deal concluded, I waited for the consignment which would be delivered on the same day, late in the night and ready for pickup the following day, Tuesday at a pre-arranged destination with a driver.

On Tuesday morning, the driver confirmed the consignment has landed for me to pickup at the designated point.

So got to the place and saw several other brands and types of poultry as you can see in this picture

So I paid the 1k for transportation and took the chicks to their new home

On arrival, they were served with glucose and milk. These will help reduce the transit stress and make them regain some loss energy.
So they were introduced into their three-deck cage which was padded with carton so as to prevent them from being exposed to cold.
At this point, let me remind would be farmers that chicks need warmth in the first 10 days.

After about 3 hours, I withdrew the milk & glucose and gave them another combo of multivitamins and antibiotics.

On Saturday, one gave up the ghost . I never knew what happened as I wasn't at around but I was informed it was looking tired and died few hour later

On getting home, I did a head count and discover that one was missing? But how?
I suspected a big rat which refused to leave the cage side was responsible despite eliminating all other ones.

On closer scrutiny, I saw an opening in the cage! My bad.

I felt my bio-security was tight but never knew the intruder had a secret passage.
Now, population reduced to from 52 to 50.

On the 9th day, I administered lasota of 100 dose on them through drinking. It was done in the morning after they were 'starved' of food & water for 2 hours. This is to ensure that they drink it well.

Here they are: I also included the anti-cocci drugs
1. Centre-Dicox (anti-coccidiossis) now #1850.
2.Vit 12 500ml (now #650)
3. Doxytylonor (#2500)

They have been very active! Every 3-4 days, their litter is scraped and filled with saw dust. This is to ensure that the floor is dry. A wet litter has many adverse effects on the chicks. Even the chicks know this because once the floor is dry, you will see them running happily and sand-bathing with the saw dust. ;Dl

Never had time for them over the weekend and a few things happened. Their power supply developed a fault, the lantern also went bad then their litter was not cleaned on time! Oh my!

So, on Monday at 7am, their feed and drink were withdrawn as I prepare to give them Gumboro 100 dose on day 14.
Again, same process like Lasota, they were given the vaccine with milk through their drinker two hours later. After about an hour, the drug was withdrawn and the rest was poured away.

Coccidiosis Alert! Later, I observed their poo and noticed a stain of red!

Let me note here that they were placed on Multivitamins and once on water for about five days so, I guess that affected one or two of them.
No time to waste time! A dose of anti-coccidiossis with Multivitamins was mixed with water for treatment.

You can't allow your chick to get weak before treating them or else it might be too late!

In order not to stress them, I postponed the litter cleaning till the next day, Tuesday.

So, this morning, the cleaning was done.
Yesterday, August 30 marked the 2nd week I ordered for them. I must say that I'm quite impressed with their development.
No pasty butts, no clustering or huddling no heavy fatality!
Their crowns have began to manifest and it looks like they are all male. Some are even agressive.

You use sawdust?;We have been taught that sawdust is not good for chicks as it causes cough. I use wood shavings by the way.

It's the shavings not the dust. I was quite mindful of that.

Four weeks old today! Check the one with a comb, waiting to see how it will like look as it grows older.

Time for sorting!
For equal access to feed and even growth, the selected bigger ones (in picture 1) were taken upstairs to give more room to the less aggressive feeding ones (in picture 2.)

It's important to always monitor your chicks from their behaviour to food and water as well as general activities.

This effort will give some level of inkling to nipping any issue which might arise in the bud.

At two to three days interval, anti-coccidiossis or antibiotics is added to their water as a way of controlling infections.

After observing them, I discovered they are not 100% male after all!
There are about three females among them but they could be more but not more than five I believe.
Anyway, this does not affect my satisfaction of having many males staring at me every day
