Oneplus came into limelight with their flagship killer Oneplus one in 2014. Ever since then Oneplus has remained in the top league of android phones, and one of the first Chinese brands to challenge Samsung, Sony, HTC and LG for the top spot in mobile technology. Apart from their decent hardware their main selling point is a bloat free close to vanilla android OS; Oxygen Os(global) & Hydrogen Os(Chinese). 7 years later we now have the oneplus 9, oneplus 9pro and oneplus Nord 2 with the Oneplus 9t coming soon.

Right now as far as android mobile phones are concerned the top 5 flagship brands are (not in any particular order) Samsung S21ultra, Xiaomi M11ultra, Pixel 5xl, Oneplus 9pro, xperia 1iii. Sadly Oneplus went from one of the affordable flagships to one of the most expensive, same as Xiaomi. Oneplus 9pro is close to a whopping 500k!

After a lovely year with a Mi Note 10lite (the most beautiful phone i have used) i decided its time i jumped ship and get a new experience out of MIUI, so here i am, now rocking 2020s Oneplus 8pro, i could not afford the oneplus 9! angry

The oneplus 8pro is still a powerful device by todays standards, the specs are as follows;
. Snapdragon 865
. Qualcomm Adreno 650
. Curved fluid 6.78 inches amoled 120hz display
. 3168 × 1440 resolution with 513ppi
. IP68 certified water and dust resistant
. Aluminium frame and gorilla glass 5 front and
back
. 8g 128gb or 12g 256gb
. 48, 48, 8 & 5 Sony rear camera & 16 front camera
. 4510 battery with 33w wireless charging and
reverse charging to charge other wireless devices
- Android 10 out of the box, updated to android
11. Oneplus promised 3yrs os updates and 4yrs
security patches. So android 13 is a given.

While changing brands my main concern was battery life. Smartphones of today have reached a crescendo in terms of technology, most phones have good cameras and enough power but battery capacity is always an issue. From research oneplus 8pro was second to Samsung galaxy S20 ultra. In real life use it was at per with my Mi Note 10lite (a battery king with 5260mah battery) due to the battery efficient SD 865 and the optimized Oxygen OS.

The first thing i did after setting it up was to root the device by patching the boot.img with magisk. I left the recovery untouched. The advantage of this method is to be able to update my os wen needed and still maintain root. I just have to un patch and patch the boot image. Easy!

This thread is to promote all things Oneplus. Pls be free to make discussions, post your pictures taken from oneplus, tell us about your oneplus device & your experience.

Well written thread. For a while I've been thinking of getting a OnePlus device. I might just entertain that idea.

Oneplus 6 is still a very good phone. I remember the oneplus 6T being a gaming champ in 2018.

Do you know that when oneplus one came out, one needed to get an invite to buy it. Talking about exclusivity.

You will stand out if you do. If you can, go for the pro version. Apart from using a year old processor the pro is always better than the next gen model. For example the 7pro is better than 8, 8pro is better than 9...

7pro is not better than 8, 8pro isn't better than 9 ..I have been using one plus since op5 to 6t to 7t and now currently using 8..just say there's no point buying a op8 if you're already using 7pro..heck 7pro is sd855 not even 855+..
I used to get overheating prompts on 7t playing pubg 90fps for long sessions but on this 8 my temp is always below 37degrees..like the phone no even d feel the game sef. 865 is waaaay better than 855

Ok. Nice insights, hence the creation of this thread. Well, the users on reddit may choose to differ on their views on 7pro. From what i have seen Oneplus 8pro is better than One plus 9. Oneplus 8pro has better screen 513ppi vs 402, ip68 waterproofing can only be found on oneplus 9pro & 9t, better battery life (SD888 over heats & thats not good for the battery)4500mah vs 4510mah, camera has ois slightly better hardware on oneplus 8pro. Its just a better phone to my opinion. To me SD 888 is powerful but not much of an upgrade to SD865, they both handle same tasks with ease.

I agree 888 overheats a lot..reason I didn't even consider op9 series upgrade. Those reddit users are obsessed with Fullscreen display..as if I even notice this hole punch here..besides the resolution 7pro has nothing on 8. The leap in performance alone 855-865 is crazy..I was reluctant going from 7t to 8 but now I realize Qualcomm got everything right in 865 everything runs noticeably smoother plus the upgradable GPU drivers...agreed 8pro>>9

I thought you use Xiaomi phones considering you created the Xiaomi thread store. And what is the estimated cost of those devices for new and fairly used and where to easily get them ?

Sticking to one brand gets boring. I also dont believe in limiting myself technologically when there is alot to experience and learn. Xiaomi was a good experience for me, and so was Xperia, HTC, Blackberry & the numerous Nokia phones before them. I started hacking phones from symbian days then blackberry os before my first Android phone; Samsung galaxy S1. The experience then was bliss.

Windows phone & Iphones are just too boring for my liking, i almost went for an iphone 11 before getting the oneplus. Thank God i reasoned some senses back into my head, while iphone is a great device there is still ALOT an android can do that iphones cant. Especially when you are rooted and a SuperUser.

Same here too I am a proud owner of oneplus 6. Damn the phone is super smooth. I remember then that I use to boost to Samsung 9plus users that my phone will beat theirs hands down, and in actual fact it's true the phone was a beast. Drop it home since the screen got broken because it's expensive to fix just like them Sam's too and not even sure i will get the original. If anyone can direct me to a sure place where I can get it replaced I don't mind using it once again as a second phone cool cool cool

Bros I am a first hand user of both devices. My s9 screen just stop working before I switched to this device. Apart from the display and small camera difference, the oneplue6 beat the s9 in other department I swear.

IMO
Camera.... Samsung s9

UI.. I prefer oxygen OS

Speed and performance? FOR ME Samsung s9 no even near here tho they use the same snapdragon 845 chipset. I play pubg and within few minutes, It starts to lag on the Samsung s9 and also hits temp of around 45 - 48(not exaggerating). But the oneplus keeps playing super smooth and maintain temp 34 - 41 highest here.

The oneplus6 also lunch apps super fast than the s9.

Battery? E still flog s9 for here

My Samsung over heats but this guy here dey hardly heatup
