You really do not understand the enormity of our present predicament.

Even if all politicians start earning zero salary, we still do not have the revenue !!!!!

Simple mathematics:

If 75,000 doctors in Nigeria should start earning average salary of say N1million per month,that's total of N75billion per month and N900b per year!! Just for Doctors salary alone!!!!

What is the budget for health, private,federal and all states combined??

What if other professionals now demand equal treatment, what will happen to NIGERIA

As a medic, the fact is , we doctors don't get paid well (One of my brothers who lives abroad when he heard my salary, his first question was...are they ripping you off?. He was shocked to hear that I was even one of the better paid doctors at my level)

But here is why Saudi can afford to pay such high salareis

1.Saudis produce oil...10 million barrels of crude compared to our 1.4 million barrels of crude.daily

2.Saudis have 35 million people, compared to our 200million people.

3. Saudis have a higher income compared to us as a result...

4.Saudi's foreign reserve in 2014 was at 750 billion dollars. Nigeria at that time was managing 39 billion dollars in our reserve.

NIGERIAN government needs to do better, everything isn't about looting and looting, a cousin of mine who was a medical doctor faced the same travails in Nigeria not until he moved to the US before alot of things changed for him


he now drive expensive cars, built a lavishly furnished duplex and other investments, NIGERIAN government needs to wake up and step up and be more responsible, they need to value our doctors because they are live savers, I am afraid if they don't do this, alot of young NIGERIAN doctors will move out en masse.

True , country is in a chaos but for once , we must speak the truth , if the medical education is that easy , why them no go Learn medicine for this same Dubai they're rushing to work ?

Every year in the universities more than enough qualified students for medicine are forced into other departments because the quota for medicine is 150 at max.
You'll see people with hyper impressive grades forced into other departments..
It won't take much for the FG to invest in the medical sector and improve the quota of every universities to 500.
That way we'll have much more exports and also more private hospitals at lesser rates.

An engineering student for example spends 5 years in school, during NYSC he is posted anywhere and atimes earns nothing other than his federal allawee but doctors are given specify treatment. Most graduates can't do more than one job that's if they even get jobs. Whereas doctors can do multiple jobs. Doctors should calm down

Here in Nigeria, we pay less than 500 dollars annually for education.Thus we leave school with not much debt or no debt.

In the US, fees can start at 3000 dollars or even as high as 40000 dollars. And you are schooling for 8-10 years (4 years college, 4 years medical school..which goes up to 6 years if you are doing a combined MD/PhD programme).

I once heard a black American female doctor state that her debt from medical school alone was $150000 dollars.

It's not just Doctors though, Soon Nigeria will start loosing IT fellas in masses too. It's already happening, but soon it will become to much to handle. They will rather pay politicians fat salaries and unnecessary allowances than develop the country and make it conducive for habitation. They will soon start being at the mercy of aggrieved Nigerian Doctors when they travel out for medical attention. And all it will take is just an intentional wrong medication.

What about soldiers and police officers who are being asked to risk their lives to protect others? Is their pay sufficient? Nurses, prison officers, civil servants in general? Not to mention the millions of youth who don't even have employment. Pensioners who don't get their pensions.

That's before you talk of the abject lack of infrastructure: good roads, lack of pipe-borne water, electricity, etc.

That's why simply focusing on the claim that doctors are paid poorly in Nigeria is annoying. Everyone is underserved by the Nigerian government apart from criminals/terrorists and politicians.
