Willian’s torrid time at Arsenal has come to an end after he agreed to terminate his contract with the Gunners.

He only joined the club last summer, penning a lucrative three-year contract worth around £220,000-a-week.



The 33-year-old failed to impress in north London following his free transfer move from Chelsea.

talkSPORT understands the winger has walked away from a staggering £20million to join Brazilian side Corinthians given he had two years left of his deal to run.

“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Willian and his family well for the future,” the club said.

Arsenal fans will no doubt be pleased to see the back of Willian as he was often a source of frustration during their disappointing campaign last year.

The comments he made when he joined the Gunners last season will no doubt come back to haunt him, too.

Willian told SunSport at the start of the season: “One of the reasons I wanted a three-year deal was to be part of a plan, not just a player passing through.

“When I talked with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years.

“It was that he first wanted to qualify for the Champions League and win it by the time I left. That was what I wanted to hear.”



Willian won two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge, but it was the Europe’s crown that eluded him, joining the club the season after they won it in memorable fashion in Munich.

“I was at Chelsea for seven years and won everything except the Champions League.

“Hopefully this move will give me the trophy I haven’t got as well as another Premier League title.”



The Brazilian was offered a two-year contract extension by Chelsea, but opted for Arsenal because their offer on the table was one year longer.

Had he stayed at the Blues, he would now be a Champions League winner as they lifted the trophy last season.

Instead, he left the Gunners bottom of the Premier League.

i just do small flash back to when we lost 8:2 to manure divided, like play like play its over 10 years now or so...

and nothing has changed in arsenal, still the same problem every season...

no punishment pass being an arsenal fan i swear...

but many people no go understand say e no easy to leave club wey u first start to dey support for another

Everyone will judge him on the outcome but the thing is arsenal's problems are deeper than Willian.


If he keeps his head up he can excel at corinthians and who knows with the way old players are making waves these days he might make a comeback.

If you are having a bad day just remembere Willian left Chelsea to Arsenal to win Champions league in 3 years. Chelsea won the campions league the year he left and he left Arsenal at the Bottom of the table with a goal difference of -9.

The irony of this this post ehn...You left the club where you had won trophies to go to Arsenal who are a banter club to win champions league? To put salt on injury, Chelsea won the champions league the next season you left while Arsenal are one feet away from relegation. A horrible and miscalculated move from Willian.

He’s one player that I like. He was very effective at Chelsea..

Nah Hazard matter enter me pass. By now he would have won a lot awards. I’m still very much interested in hazard coming back to Chelsea but I doubt if Chelsea needs him anymore - we’ve got set of dribblers and runners that are even younger..
