The issue of Muslim women is also a tricky one for me coz I feel they're oppressed. I might be wrong coz we don't have a huge Muslim community in SA, and I consume biased westernised media.

I think going forward young girls should be the ones we are most concerned with and who should be empowered to not succumb to the pressure, because it has become the norm to sexual oneself. But honestly, men still control the narrative as they own the big media and marketing companies - female ownership is still a woeful minority.

I accept your points about Muslim women and the balance u struck. I've heard of really empowered women in countries like Tunisia and Morocco for example, but they are secular and not Islamic states. Will read up on Aisha Yesufu.

Your point about rich Nigerian women wearing expensive jewellery and lingerie underneath their hijabs raises a few questions leading us back to sexualization. Does it mean given the chance they'll just follow the trends like all other women ? But I guess looking good and feeling sexy is just human nature, given the extent to which they've gone so far to glam themselves underneath the hijabs.
