I remember reading somewhere that equipment bought from Russia are in addition to what we are expecting from USA and not a substitute to it.

If this is true it means Nigeria would be getting more MI35m instead of Mi28 from Russia. Am sure Nigerian Air force won't intend keeping super cobra with Mi28 and Mi35.

Hmmmm that road especially from Gajiram to Monguno around these villages Bilimari, Ali Gambari, Bunari, Gassarawa na dead zone and ISWAP crossing areas into Guzamala.

We had an FOB at Bunari that really helped to checkmate these ambushes at that zone, but was collapsed during the Supercamps era.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION BUREAU SUBMITS INTERIM REPORT ON AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT INVOLVING NIGERIAN AIR FORCE KING AIR-350 AIRCRAFT TO THE CHIEF OF AIR STAFF

Following the unfortunate incident involving a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) King Air -350 aircraft at the vicinity of Kaduna Civil Airport on 21 May 2021, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao directed that a joint investigative body consisting of experienced NAF safety officers and the Accident Investigative Bureau (AIB) be constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the air crash. After about three months of painstaking joint investigation, the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of AIB, Engr Akin Olateru FNSE, today 15 September 2021 submitted an interim report on the sad incident to the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Amao, at his office at NAF Headquarters, Abuja.

The submitted report is organized into three sections namely; the information obtained in the course of the investigation; analysis of data collected in view of the Board’s Terms of Reference; and the conclusion, which covers the initial findings and immediate recommendations. It should be noted that at this interim stage, a total of 27 initial findings and 8 immediate safety recommendations were made for the convening authority as well as other aviation related agencies for immediate implementation. It is expected that the final report will contain the flight data recorder readout, the reviewed operator’s and service provider’s standard operating procedures as well as other detailed analysis.

While receiving the report, the CAS reiterated the main essence of activating the ‘joint investigative’ clause contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the NAF and the AIB on 1 July, 2020. According to him, the successful collaboration is a clear indication of the potency of collaboration in aircraft accident investigation, which must be encouraged. Air Marshal Amao also noted that such collaborative efforts make accident investigations more transparent and open while also stating that the outcome of the investigation is not necessarily aimed at punitive measures but essentially at generally improving safety in the aviation industry.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of AIB, Engr Akin Olateru stated that the joint investigation with the NAF was its first direct involvement in military air crash investigation in Nigeria and second investigation outside its mandate having also assisted Sao Tome and Principe in the past. He also stated that copies of the report, with the endorsement of the CAS, will also be submitted to the Hon. Minister of Aviation and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to ensure that the recommendations addressed to aviation agencies are implemented. The Commissioner also stated that although the accident involved a military aircraft and crew, it happened at a civil airport adding that the involvement of AIB in the investigation by the Nigerian Air Force would help in closing the gaps on the civil aviation side.

Soldiers should continue moving in Hilux? If you know the number of Ambushes that has occurred this year only, you’ll weep for a week. 60% of military ambushes are not reported on any media.

Four APC convoy can move with obviously 30 soldiers. We use too many Soldiers on open Hiluxes so we can scare the enemy or outnumber our enemies.

The Military should understand that numbers alone might not win this war. We need to protect the lives of our gallant men. We should stop using the yardstick of several Nigerians ready to join the depot as a numerical advantage in warfare.

We better start acquiring APCs/MRAPs for road. Ambush no be moi moi oh. Even the Gunner on the Hilux usually get hit before even trying to understand where the bullets from the enemy is ringing from cool

Nigeria is not buying MRAPs above $350k. There would never be enough MRAPs / APCs. The big issue is carelessness, hubris, over confidence and disdain for TTTPs.

You cannot be in a convoy and traveling at breakneck speeds to an engagement singing war songs without stopping frequently, reading your maps, determining possible ambush points, using advance parties or spotters ET. C

There is no mrap that is up to 2 million dollars, even the new JLTV that the US army uses is like $400k,our military leadership are just corrupt ni. There are acquiring apc and mraps now though,so let's give them time. An unspecified number of apc has been bought from Czech republic though, dunno the specifics for now.

I don't know why the army doesn't consider this vehicle as an immediate substitute.
I'm sure the cost would not be upto $60k though the vehicle will probably not be able to withstand 7.62mm AP but it's still way better than completely soft skin hilux.

They don’t travel in speed here it’s always slow. This I can assure you about. The issue remains traveling in a convoy of all open trucks.

If the enemy opens rapid fire, who will respond back?

I have been 5 mins close to an ambush on that Monguno road. Ambush is really messy.

Most times they’ll throw grenades on the convoy before shooting as you can’t plant IED cos it’s a free road.

Ambushed in Toyota trucks gives you barely no chance at all to respond. And na corn season self, I remember back then the military stopped villagers planting maize or sorghums on that road
