Infact, You are a very stupid person.
Am I supposed to walk about with receipts ?
Don't mention me again. You can go on and believe what you want.

Show us documents showing they collect VAT or get out of here, foolish blockhead.
You should be ashamed of your level of stupidity.

This thread seems to have been set up for the sole purpose of tribal war.

There are a lot of sane reasons and points to refute this thread but since doing so would open one to.abuse and being called an aboki, I won't make any comments

But one thing I have to say to op and his supporters; You have some really funny statistics going on here. Also , as someone has said elsewhere, the owner of the Borno restaurant pays vat separately.

Good evening anyway. We have beaten the North

Vat is charged on the food you are buying and shown on the receipt. There's no excuse here.

legally if you are charging VAT it has to be on the invoice, you dont have a choice whether or not to charge VAT. What you can do is to then show discount on the invoice if you are paying the vat yourself.

Not true. I am a vendor. To be competitive, I bear the VAT burden and I have no obligation to disclose it on the invoice. But monthly, I prepare the VAT schedule and forward same to the authority.

And please note, I'm based in Abuja

So attached are two food receipts from restaurants in Maiduguri Borno state and Portharcourt Rivers state where I went to eat.

It clearly shows VAT are collected in Rivers, but not Borno and most other northern states. I have been to Adamawa, Yobe, Kebbi, Taraba, Bauchi and host of other northern states.

NOTE: I took the pics myself. First one is from Maiduguri, while the second is from portharcourt; and they re all from this month.

1.How many restaurants did you visit in both Borno and Rivers before you made the assumption that 'Borno pays no vat'.?

2.Did you interview the owner of the restaurant in Borno about his VAT paying habits...whether he pays VAT separate from the price on food.?

3.Have you done a study on the VAT paying habits of restaurants in Borno vs Restaurants in Rivers?

4.Have you also done a study on VAT per state in the country?

5.Are you also aware that there is a war on in Borno, and VAT colelction may not be as effective as in the relatively peaceful Rivers?

I hope you have some decent answers OP...and no , I am not here to fight you...I jsut want the facts on which you assume that Borno pays no VAT...

Because I can assume, using your method, that a single girl in your village who sleeps around means all the girls in your state are prostitutes, or a single boy in your village who steals means all the boys in your village are thieves.

I stay in Maiduguri and this is false
This is how you people peddle lies online, even the mods didn't do any proper findings and it is already rocking the front page.
Did you visit Today's super store
Their vat is included, it shows on the receipt VAT included
Did you visit City Star Restaurant, the VAT is paid separately there.
can you prove him wrong by showing us evidence of vat payment accrued to similar transactions.
Try do that to Back your claim up but for now the guy's argument is valid

Op olodo...no VAT on selected basic food items. You must be a graduate without knowledge.

If you are knowledgeable, When you were charged in Portharcourt, you were supposed to know that they are doing the wrong thing in Rivers, while Borno doing the right thing.

The moderator that brought this to front page should be sacked.

I can see bandwagon comments too. Most just went to school, but zero knowledge clouded by tribalism and religion.
You are the olodo here. Food sold in restaurants are subjected to VAT. Though basic food items are exempted but if processed or prepared to be sold for a profit, then is taxable.
Please, hide your ignorance.

Bro calm down, I think it depends on the strength of their board of IRS.
So they may not have started collecting from restaurants or even know they should collect VAT from them.

You are right.

However, for most states they haven't explored their IRS options. They haven't reached to where they should reach or collect what they should collect. Some states are more advanced than others in terms of revenue collection
