D’Tigress ended up winning their last ELEVEN Afrobasket games by double digits, and have gone 2 straight Afrobasket tournaments winning each game by double digits.

This team is simply incredible!!

.... I envisage they we will have to play Mali again.... Or else, their might be likelyhood of both African teams not qualifying for world cup proper.

I would prefer the African teams to be split into different tournaments, in order to increase their chances of advancing to the World Cup

...Bad idea, i do not know the format, but, if we get split into different groups, it can work for us or against us(Africa).By this, both teams might not qualify or both teams might qualify..imagine being in the same group with France, spain and canada, Anyway, this is the time for the federation to work on getting serious reinforcement, cause the level of opposition just went 10 times higher. However, if we face each other again, it means we are certain of having one team in the world cup as a continent. However, if it based on grouping, we hope to get a good draw, so as to be able to qualify.

The bolded is very plausible. Didn’t think along those lines initially.

Yes, the NBBF needs to scout especially for outside the paint shooters, preferably players who stand 6’2” - 6’5”. I’m sure the NCAA (or even WNBA) has talented players of Nigerian heritage who will be thrilled by the prospect of playing for the undisputed #1 team in Africa within the last 6 years.

....Well, from the research i did, every team gets to be in four groups of four teams(16 teams in all). The top 3 in each group qualifies for world cup. 3 teams are be awaited to emerge from the Asian region to complete 16 teams for the qualifying tournament, The Asian region are playing their own tournament at the moment. You do expect Japan to be one of the teams that will qualify. The U.s and Australia are the only two teams that have qualified for world cup proper. This is because the Australians are hosting it, and the Americans are the Olympic champions, however, the two teams will still play the tournament. I see the d tigress team become even more competitive, because we still have some players that were not around for afrobasket, example Nyingifa, Evelyn. Now imagine we can get the likes of Arike, Micheala, i swear, i do not envy coach Hugley Jnr, if something like this plays out, imagine if we also get the Ogwumike sisters and other hidden gems that we have not discovered yet. It will be serious war to get a jersey, if such a scenario plays out.

Of the Ogwumike sisters, it’s likely that Chiney would be the only one that shows up for the tournament, because Erica will be in her Spring semester in medical school, while Nneka is still ineligible.

Also, it looks like Arike Ogunbowale has firmly committed to the US, which is a big big blow. But I hope Coach Hughley and the NBBF are able to convince Micheala to don the green-white-green.

It would be fairer and much easier if FIBA can adopt the FIFA model of playing qualifiers...Let each continent organise its own qualifier instead of this current model...

Must the NBBF and the coach always wait for these players to become popular b4 poaching them?

Ideally, their scouting network should identify the players before they blow. But the publicity makes the NBBF's job easier.

Nwora lead the offense for the Bucks last night with 30 points against the Nets...that was after he recorded 16 points against the Grizzlies in a game that ended in the 3rd quarter...
It is clear that he is their best scorer after Giannis... I'm tipping him to play more this season...

Meanwhile,in Toronto, OG has been doing OG things and is primed to be the raptors main guy this season.. And Achiuwa has been getting quality minutes in the pre season too, with good returns...
Should all things work well, we will definitely be presenting a much better squad ahead of the world cup!

PS: the Commonwealth games is next year, I'm not sure basketball will be included in it this year...

.. We should qualify for the world cup first, lets no get ahead of ourselves, NBA players hardly play qualifiers, what Coach brown did to the core of the team is not cool, most of the old guys that play in Europe or Asia might not show up, based how they were treated prior to olympics. Usually the guus from Europe and Asia are the one that play our qualifiers. How do you not take your captain(ike Diogu), A.K.A captain fantastic or Ben Uzor, he also dropped Ireogbu, who is a natural point guard, dropped Stan Okoye. Notice how we struggled at the point guard position at the Olympics. So if the group i named above do not show up, we will be left with the group that could not qualify from the group stage of afrobasket. So i will not get ahead of myself based on the mess we have created. On Coach Brown, i think he should have realized that the way he wanted us to play (golden state warriors way) will not work as we do not have players that shoot that well, also Fiba competitions are very physical, it is even worse in afrobasket. As regards xommon wealth games, yes they play basketball, but we hardly use our best players in such competitions.

I wasn't happy with the team selection under coach Mike myself, but you can't blame him... Some of our best players are in the NBA...But they can't be available because the NBA doesn't care much about national team competitions like that... They can't risk losing contract at their clubs over some qualifiers... And yet,we need them..
The same thing might just repeat itself heading to the world cup... We will use the available players to partake in qualifiers and then move to the NBA boys when we eventually qualify..

I'm sure that some of these NBA players won't mind showing up for the qualifier if they have the chance... Players like Nwora, Okogie and Metu have been with the team for a while...
