So sorry about your brother's experience. I wish him quick recovery, physically and mentally.

This things are very common here in Lagos. One guy with suit and tie was found dead as early as 5:30am in my area earlier this year. He was stabbed to death because he had a physical battle with the robbers that wanted to steal his Android phone. Too bad.
We need to be smarter and more conscious of our movements most especially here in Lag. When I'm going to work now, I were shorts like I am going to the market. I just change my clothes at the office. If you work on the Island, you must have experienced robberies on so many occasions. This country is really unsafe. God help us.

There is unprecedented insecurity in the land.I am not a stoicist in anyway ,I agree but we do not need falacies or half truths to paint our situation as hapless or the worst in the world.....the OP refused to give proper details on what happened....one chance robberies and kidnappings are not same....this for me makes the story unbelievable and the poster just made it up.....I dwell on facts

Don't you think his brother's state of mind could affect the narrative, could it also be the narrator is not conversant with Lagos and just narrated as told. Could it also be the "one chance" criminals has upped their games to kidnaping? We are gradually getting to the level that we all will need paid vigilantes if we must work.

To prevent robbery make sure wear double layers of trousers so you can easily hide your phone in your trousers. if thief ask for phone you can show them your pockets with nothing in them. When terry akpala got robbed i know things are bad in lagos cry i remember staying on the island till 3am and i felt safe. There was armed police officer near the bridge that wanted us to give them pocket change. This was 2020 january. nigeria doesnt seem liek if will make it pas 2023 armed robbery no lack of free speech will twitter shutdown kanu and igboho still arrested

What if they were going to kill you anyway! You never know..what if they are ritualist and they don't even intend taking money. I will rather have that in my pocket than nothing...

Bros!! What if they just want to take what they want and leave you without harming you, what if they are just hungry and need something......your best line of defense is to co operate with them and keep a level head to think your way out of the situation and being calm really helps

Many people have been victims stabbings and shootings just because they proved stubborn.....sometimes a conversation can get you out of some mess and better still luck rather than your pepper spray....it's only useful on lone attackers

Kidnapping is a Nigerian's culture of life....I am not surprised with your story that you narrated...I have gotten the experienced when I am going to work....the stolen my personal documents and i thank God that I am alive....after an hour of kidnapping me,they covered my face

Because you don't want to travel out, doesn't mean others should do the same, do you know the thousands of Nigerians that are trooping to foreign embassies everyday?

the last time I visited NIGERIA and I went to US embassy with a friend of mine, the swamp of population there would make you realize how bad the state of Nigeria is, even Nigerians are trooping to neighbouring countries like Benin, Ghana in droves.

Nigeria is beyond redemption and I don't think it will stop anytime soon, since the government have refused to profer solutions and fix the whole insecurity mess in the country.

Perhaps you love suffering and smiling because alot of Nigerians are accustomed to that, some of you will rather laugh and die in pains than fight for your right, and please stop comparing the western world to a shíthole like NIGERIA, at least the west have good basic amenities, jobs etc unlike NIGERIA.

ask yourself, do you think NIGERIA will ever get any better? be truthful to yourself.

You mean to say robberies will become prevalent in South Korea, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Switzerland, Finland all of a sudden?

.....
to where will you run!! There is nothing naija is going through that other supposed developed countries haven't passed through.....it's a phase in our development process and our prayer should always be that it should get better in our time.

The Tola1006 of a man sounds like he has been brutally damaged with Nigeria's problems. You need to go through his comments on this thread where he prays for the situation to get better (as if that has worked elsewhere), doubts the narrative of the victim's brother and just rant aimlessly and stupidly. That's the end result of being a mumu in the world's poverty capital. He's a mentally deranged fvcktard!

Not nonsense.but has holes that can be patched up. I believe it all boiled down to emotions. The victim might be traumatic due to the harrowing experience.

Same way someone close was almost attacked last week in lagos inside hold up. Thank God he locked his car otherwise it would have been a different story. They tried opening the car but couldn't told him to bring his phone and the next thing was to remove cutlass from under their cloth. He had to leave his car and escape through the passenger side. He started screaming thief! When the bastards disappeared into thin air. May God continue to protect us all
