Stop with this conversion please, they're going to spend in pounds.
so you mean they won't send money home?
And they shouldn't have anything to do with Nigeria? Even if they are to be sending 300 pounds every month, that's more than 200k Naira. "No matter where you go, remember the road that will lead you home."

As funny as it sounds he is probably telling some truth

There are so many reasons some Nigerians who left Nigeria in the 70’s and 80’s barely want to return to Nigeria. Most cant even afford flights back home, most don’t have houses here, most don’t have cars to drive them around here either.

It’s funny after 30 years no investments in Nigeria whatsoever. It’s possible . These are the reasons you see the U.K. is a pseudo rich but heavily taxed in like sum and expensive country to live

The nurses would have on average thier £1500 per month salary no doubt ( £23-25k per year)

Now this is the problem
Out of that £1500 a month £800 would easily go on rent, bills such as gas transport to work, food at work, clothes, etc would easily take £300-400 a month

Now they are left with £300 right, they have two choices spend the remaining £300 back into the system that have them the £1500 or find a way to make it accumulate every month

99 percent of people would choose spend the £300 on shopping and just to get the feeling that finally you have Escaped Nigeria

Now this is what happens next, months become months and like play like play years go by. Nurses just like everyone earn exactly the same in the Uk for years meanwhile bills go up

Cost of living go up so the £300 left is barely anything again, years become years and the person decides to settle obviously in the Uk and no where else and thier kids give them more bills to pay

In the nursing profession just like other ones they get only 28 days holiday in a year so they are more less trapped in the nursing job or any other job they move to.

The summary above becomes just working to pay bills and living pay check to pay check

It takes extraordinary grace to escape the life of LIVING FROM PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK in the UK

SOME do Fraud to escape, some go into benefits fraud too or credit card fraud

Also apart from living paycheck to paycheck, the UK is extraordinary built on a credit system, the little that the nurses have left after the month starts going on credit card repayments

Mortgage repayments, car loan repayments meanwhile in the midst of this the cost of living in the UK keeps going up

This is not to discourage anyone, the UK is one of the hardest places to be in and you see a lot of money after the month that you don’t think you are using again

After about 10 years it’s possible the nurses were just about the same way they were 10 years before when they left Nigeria, it’s not bad belle, it’s just how rigid the structure in the UK is

No one can escape how the UK works

Only way to escape how the U.K. works is to have a second hustle or side hustle or FRAUD.

But again who will have the chance to escape Nigeria and not take it

But life is not a bed of roses on the other end due to the facts in my long epistle
There's no nurse that lives on 1500 pounds per month.
stop spreading ignorance.

Which one is blessing in living as a foreigner in another country.
In Nigeria where I live like a king is better for me. I can even slap law enforcement man and go scot free. 500 naira can give me correct one plate of food in Kano with meat while the equivalent in dollar cannot give in US or UK, so what is there.

Stop being lazy, have alternatives, plant the food you need around you, work hard then pray hard, take your weed and bang your olosho free, with food every other things are done.
This is funny but not a joke. Irrespective of your good health system, food and government, you must still die. A small boy with gun can even shoot you in a mall over there. Nursery children play with gun, kill many in their schools, so what. My naija is the greatest country on Earth please.

I think they have a bigger support network for iinstwnce Indians have been coming to the Uk since God knows when

They have a big support network which transcends financially , also the side hustles thhey end up doing such as setting up restaurants, shop ends up brining more cash

I have never seen a Nigerian chicken and chips bossman shop in my life it’s always the same people

Even from
Phone accessories shop to GP clinics

I think they have a financial support for these things which end up making them more money

You are too funny bro. What is the percentage of Nigerians that pay 40k for tuition abroad.

You see I work in the University here in the UK and I run an educationalconsultancy firm with clients in Nigeria. I know how the majority of parents who decide to train their children in the UK struggleto pay their tuition. Some of these children have to start working (even some work more than the 20 hours
tier 4 limit) to earn their livingin the UK.

You may call it theory, but it is not. I studied and work here in the UK sir. So whateverI tell you is with a benefit of hindsight.

I am sure those yiu said are trapped in the system arw either those who lost focused and got carried away on the UK or lived illegally here. There is no way you would have a right standing in the system and you would go through the scenaro you just painted.

quote author=adonainana post=106242032]

So when your kids become citizen and apply for free tuition

And you see the kids of your mates that you left in nigeria 30 years ago paying £40,000 a year for the same tuition your own kids are applying for free

And this people are paying in naira ooo what would be your reaction

Tbh just pray to your God bro because all this stats you are saying is easy in theory

Come to London and see very very poor Nigerian households maybe if they were moving as lawyers architects I won’t say much

But nurses for U.K. omo na war ooo

Even people on £35 k a year Dey fight the Uk system for success

You are busy using stats to defeat a system you can’t escape

You can’t use the experience of living in Hackney and London to advice people. Your experience isn’t enough.
I lived in Upton Park and Stratford, played football at Westham park near Plaistow, attended Ashimolowo’s KICC at Hackney…this was before the Olympics. I thought then that Uk started and ended in London.
I paid £500 for an en-suite accommodation during my uni days and later got a decent one room all inclusive at £350 till I graduated.

If you move up north, you can get a beautiful 2-3 bedroom accommodation at £500. No jokes….ask people working in places like Kendal, Morecambe or Grange over sands and Barrow-In-Furness. It’s the same salary scale but accommodation and cost of living is much cheaper.
Google FGH Barrow in Furness. There’s a sizeable population of Nigerians working there mainly Igbos and yorubas and they will always assist you if you are new.

Stop misinforming people. You claim to know or have somewhere you’d pay £260 per month but insist that accommodation is within the range of £800 and above. You are confused mister.

For anyone wanting to have an idea how much accommodation cost anywhere in the Uk….visit Spareroom dotcom and find out for yourself. Don’t let people fill your head with nonsense. Google and type in the postcode or town and see what it reveals.

Good morning NLs
We all claim our mothers soup is the sweetest till we taste the other.

First, A nurse in Nigeria can not be compared to a new nurse in UK. In career, finance, life expectancy, socio economic status etc..

Suddenly we remember the phrase paycheck to paycheck as if thats not the life of a regular Nigerian Nurse here in Nigeria..

Remember 25k yearly is for working about 37/38 hours per week.
We have 168 hours a week. If we divide it by 2 and assume we take a compulsory sleep of 84 hours per week (12hours each day)

you will be left with 84 hours to work p/w of which 37hrs is what your employer demands to meet up. This 37 hours could be just monday to Wednesday or Thursday..

What i am saying is . There is room for overtime and extra jobs.
Its about planning your time and living a low budget life..

If you are newly married, its easier to save.
I know of couples that completed their houses here in Nigeria within 5years of their stay.

True the sanity and the peace of mind would come but at a price tho . After many many years due to how rigid the Uk works, only very few avoid living from paycheck to paycheck due to rent, food, car finance, gas , water etc

After many years of just working year in year out and just paying compulsory and mandatory bills every month, you forget about peace of mind or even the sanity

It’s just how funny how the U.K. works

This is why some Nigerians who unfortunately left Nigeria 20 or 30 years ago hardly want to ever come back to Nigeria

Most don’t even have anything to return to cos the UK has a very clever and compulsory and rigid way of offering you carrots and using the stick to take it from you

Some Nigerians do Fraud to escape the rigidity

But tbh I’m just speaking from experience and would never discourage anyone from wanting to escape Nigeria
No where is perfect. Such people might not even live long if they were in Nigeria. It's left for you to make the best of your situation

its a good thing you mentioned you are a professional and have lived in those countries
Do you know how many professionals in nigeria that can/are not practicing what they "professed" which is not by choice
Do you know how many profesionals have a passport talk more of hope of travelling out?
Do you know how many professionals pay tax from ther meager salary and yet there is nothing to show for the tax (we provide our own local security, we sink our own boreholes, we take agbo jedi when we fall sick, we fix our roads ourselves)
I would rather go to the UK practice what i "professed" pay my tax wchich i am obligated to and with so much trust in the government to provide me with basic and working infrastructure

martyns303:
Let them go…. They will soon find out it’s not all roses . Not even America or Canada but UK! UK that will tax everything back, they will earn the money, and spend it all on tax, accommodation, transportation, electricity, heating and many many expenses and at the end of the month, they will be left with nothing.

Nigeria is not a rich country when compared to the west, in Nigeria how many people actually take their health seriously and go to the hospital or willing to pay good money for medical services. Medical services are ridiculously high in the west, that’s how they are able to generate revenue to be able to pay better. As a country, yes there’s corruption, but we are making do with the best we have.

And before anybody comes for me, I am also a professional, I have lived in the UK, SA, UAE and recently US. I still will rather work in Nigeria.

What you see sir is the result of decades of hard work and investment.

It didn’t start today and it didn’t start in the last 20 years either. Indians for example have lived in the Uk for more than 100years, most of them settled in the Uk as well when Idi Amin chased them out of Uganda. These people have lived in the Uk for years…lots of them have ‘married’ their relatives to have them join them in the Uk.

They have operated shops, restaurants, fill their people ( illegal immigrants) there for decades….assisted these group of people through their ‘smart’ solicitors. Some learnt plumbing, roofing, joinery, apprentice in electricity and wiring….some jobs that our people rarely go into, cab driving. A group of people will buy a house at auction, make it over using their own people to reduce cost, buy a lot more and do same, open up local shops and force the white British corner shop owner to move and relocate. They have been collectively chipping at the system and ruthlessly taking opportunities.
I think our people have been too individualistic.

Our orientation is different. I don’t think we have employed the same method.

Another error. People don't take education finance in UK because their parent cannot afford to pay school fees. You have got a lot to learn from the way the UK system works.

That man is confused.
