In the process of over taxing importers Nigeria has made Benin republic ports the choice destination of goods and shipping companies in west Africa. Most of our business men prefer to import through Benin republic and smuggle into Nigeria, during which Nigeria loses revenues that should have accrued to her.

Nigerian government doesn't have business sense. Turn over matters in many businesses. Instead of charging 1m per car for hundred cars why not charge 500k for a thousand cars. If Nigerian lowers her import tariffs on cars and make it more competitive than Benin republic, Nigeria will make more money because most people will prefer to import through Nigerian ports

They play politics in everything! Thinking they are doing other regions like Warri, Port harcourt and Calabar that has large and good ports but not functioning one bit. Why Federal government refuse to revive Warri port in Delta State remains a mystery till date! They do not want development in Oil producing states. Same states feeding the nation! Well I don’t blame government of the North, I blame the fools that settled for 13% derivatives. Something that belongs to you!

Someone I know bought a 9ja used CRV-2005 model in 2018 for 800k, well maintained and kept clean, now he's reselling for 1.3M.
My ish is, something of such should be a depreciating asset, but you'd know the country is bleeped when depreciating asset is appreciating.

When you check naira to dollar ratio since 2018 till date you'll realise the car didn't appreciate.

In 2018 N800k was about $2,800 but now N800k is $1,400...

Nigerian second hand cars are expensive now a days but it’s no where near as expensive as used cars in Ghana. Na Ghana u go fit buy car for yankee 1mil and they charge like 1.2mil for clearance. For Togo and Benin I agree but for Ghana Tokunbo cars no be joke thing for here. I dey Gh and I know most Igbo guys who buys their cars from Nigeria and change the registration and other necessary documents.

And it should. Taking maintenance cost into consideration it's better to buy a Toyota than an Audi. First even here in USA I will buy a Toyota before I buy any German car. Toyota cars can run on 87 octane gas without any problem, whereas German cars require 93 octane which tend to cost close to $1.50 more per gallon. Remember Toureg , people used to buy that car in Nigeria until those cars started developing fuel injector issues. This was brought about because PMS fuel in reality is a 87 octane fuel grade. Toureg uses 2 fuel injectors. buying a used one cost close to $900 each, and new ones from Volkswagen cost $1500 each. Imagine spending close to $3000 just to replace fuel injectors. I always advice people stay away from German cars. Freaking too expensive to maintain.

It’s in Nigeria you see a 2009 Toyota Corolla being sold at 2million naira which is about 70k in rands. 70k rands will buy you 2015 Toyota Corolla tokunbo here in SA. Government needs to do something about this please. Nigerians are really suffering honestly, this ain’t fair. We don’t really deserve this
