There is no terrorist organization that can survive or thrive without the support of the people. This is why these terrorist organizations always start with ideologies that are easily sellable with the people, often setting people against the government and security organizations.


If you study ipob/ESN closely you will inevitably come to the conclusion that they are just another terrorist organization in the making. For Boko Haram the selling point was total extreme Islamic domination, for ipob it's break away of the south east into a Biafran republic- with a promise that a republic of Biafra was solve all eastern problems. In both cases, regardless of how ridiculous these ideas seem, it appears to resonate with the people. This is because we often do not take the time or probably not even interested in critically examining the supposed eldorado that these terrorists pretend to offer.


When govt tried to fight Boko Haram it was the people that rose up to resist the efforts of security agencies, they didn't mind sacrificing themselves for Boko haram's cause, believing it to be holy and justifiable. But today the opposite is the case. The same people that initially supported Boko Haram are now being murdered in their tens of thousands, thousands kidnapped and internally displaced.


It's the same thing with IPOB. Currently in the east, there is a tacit support for the extremist group. All the killings, kidnappings and attrocities of ipob/ESN are being swept under the carpet. Everytime ESN strikes and murders people, easterners will jump to their support often offering alternative explanations, no matter how ridiculous. Most easterners do not want to believe that ipob/ESN can murder anybody. They tacitly and even sometimes openly support the attrocities. It's unfortunate. Igbos are folding their hands and watching while murderers, kidnappers and rapists ravage their land. It's like cutting off your nose just to spite your face. You are still the ones that will bleed to death!


Anybody that stands up to tell these Igbo brothers and sisters the truth is often tagged an enemy, sabo, DSS etc. All fantastic explanations for a doomed region that have refused to open their eyes to the truth. In a few years time the entire east will be unlivable with no businesses, jobs or wealth creation. Igbos should understand that no region can thrive without peace. Now is the time to say no to killings!
