Want to get a car for my dad, budget is 2.9m - 3.3m.
He wants a Corolla but I don’t like this car as I feel it’s generally overpriced especially here in Nigeria. He keeps saying it’s due to fuel economy but he barely goes anywhere and we are going to give him money weekly for fueling.

Please I need an advice on the best car to get for him.
Points to note:

..Access to road is not that good.
..Fuel economy ( moderate consumption ).
..Cheap Maintenance.
..I know Naira has little value but the car shouldn’t be too old model.
..Durability.

Do you want an SUV or a sedan?

For SUV, go for Highlander 2005/6 or Honda pilot

For Sedan, either the corolla, Honda Accord 2008-2011, Honda civic 2010. Pls don't buy Toyota Camry of 2002-2009. Their 2az engine is notorious for oil burning.

Warning; please don't buy Nigeria used car for your father

3.3m would get you a clean TOKS 2010 honda element FWD or AWD it comes with a 2.4L engine and would give you 10L/100km highway or 12L/100km city driving. Full tank from reserve is 7500 about 46L of fuel.

If you dont like the boring boxy design buy a CRV you should be able to afford the 07 upwards.

You cannot get a 2010 rav4 or highlander for such price as Toyota is overpriced.

I don't have a problem with that
I have a neighbour with 2008 Camry using 20w 50 that is not burning oil. It won't affect all 2AZ engines but majority of the engines burns oil. I am using Mobil 5w 30 high mileage but mine is burning oil

Big daddy 2002 to 2006 do NOT BURN OYEL ..... 2007 to 2010 are factory defects... A good friend of mine drives a 2010 camry in the USA .. He is always topping oil.. He carries two liters of 5w30 all the time in the booth of the car .... The weekly anointing of oyel is really getting to him ......Since he does uber he has to keep a mental note to always anoint the engine grin that can be tedious at times

There is more of compliants of oil burn in the 2007 to 2009 2az's than in the 2002 to 2006 model years. I have an amazing 2004 camry LE with over 200k miles in almost brand new condition that doesnt use a drop of oil for 5k miles of oil change intervals and it still has the factory components like the ac compressor and transmission and like someone did mention dru23 with magnatec oil. Thats exactly what i use and its gotten from him too.
Solid build quality on that car

I agree with you. There Is more oil born in 2007-2009 than 2002-2006does not mean there is no oil burn in 2002-2006. You may be lucky. From the thread I shared, you will many Uber drivers complaining about oil burn in 2004-2006 Camry

Most of you guys only read not to fully understand. You read a little line and just ran off...... I stated that in my early years of doing uber.. With no experience with car maintenance .

i was using camry 2003 for uber early 2014. The oil of choice at the time was 20w50. The car started shorten oil . Each time we change oil , the oil will totally dry up after few miles with no trace of leak anywhere on the floor........
So we had a mechanic take a look at it .. He stated the car will not last anymore. And that we should buy oil again top it and stop driving it and sell it. He stated that the more we drive it the more smoke will likely come out ....

He brought a buyer and we sold the car . And I clearly stated that I will never buy and use 20w50 oil again. That is how I actually got into the oil business. And I started importing engine oil to use for my uber cars. From there I started educating people about engine oil and I started selling it...........please read to understand it ......

Those that had engine burn from their camry 2002 to 2006 more than likely abused those cars with no experience like me at the time

I don't think it is the 20w 50 that makes your car shorts oil. The engine is already having issues. In my first car, Camry 2000, I used 20w 50 for 8 years without oil shortage. The issue of oil shortage is common with 2aZ but more in 2007-2009. I have a Camry 2005 I bought last year and it is shorting oil even with 5w 30. So don't just sit somewhere and conclude because you sell oil

Prior usage/maintenance could have been an issue. The fact that its tokunbo doesnt say the previous owner took care of it and never skipped oil changes.
Oyinbos too can be terrible at times
You also want to take a look at your pcv valve or cleaning it and perhaps do a cylinder compression test.
The pcv replacement might solve the oil burn issue and if not the compression test will give a better insight as to why you loose oil
No car is perfect....
