Good morning Oga Gazzuz, Mr. Nurey, Kingreign and my fellow nairalanders…
Please is it advisable to change the engine oil I use in servicing my car to Mobil 1 0W20 after the dealer has serviced it with the normal Mobil Xhp 20W50 engine oil twice earlier this year

You can only change if the former user did not abuse the car. If he was doing regular changes without sludge, then you can change

If the car have been using 20W50, changing it to 5W20 or 5W30 is risky until the previous oil change intervals is ascertained and the present condition of the engine.

However, I believed you can change to 10W30 or 10W40 full synthetic if the engine is in good condition.

Sound is not the issue here but how to know if there is sludge inside the engine? Synthetic oil will clean up the sludge and may cause;

1. leaks after cleaning the sludge assisting/covering/protecting warn seals

2. The sludge will block the pick up screen of the fuel pump and will make oil not to properly lubricating all part of the engine. This may result in knock.

He already changed oil twice this year so it means there has been above average engine maintenance.

I say you can go ahead with 0W20 provided it is the recommended oil weight for your car.

Please go ahead. That's the recommended oil for the car! You will notice better performance from your engine afterwards.
