did anybody notice that the building collapsed straight down onto its foundation.

and the building had been standing for almost a year or more before the collapse.

Basically if the building was controlled demolition, it wold look exactly like this one did.
A straight down collapse unto its footprint affecting no nearby structures .

And then to top it up, its just by chance that this happened when the owner was inside .
Am just saying too many coincidences in this one to rule out foul play.

First thing i noticed as well. Entire just neatly collapsed and folded.

This is madness, paying such amount of money for an advanced barracks building. Why can't those who subscribed to these apartments go and buy a piece of land in ikoyi themselves build their own choices there. In this country money have made some people to be stupid. Like what my grand mother always told me. She said to me my son dream big but don't take your dream too far as some dreams could be expresasway to the grave and great danger.

So people will be working in a building and they will allow people to carry out a controlled demolition in the building almost 100 workers are working on

Sometimes you have to read what you want to type on a public forum again and again before you click post

I noticed this from the pictures too, the slabs neatly piled on another, and one can easily tell it's from different floors. If it's a controlled demolition the residue of the explosives would still be found within the rubble. Till then, I'll just go with the already circulating corner cutting, substandard materials theory.

Lol. Isn't everything in Naija over priced? Compare the price of a brand new iPhone in the US and in Nigeria. Or a Toyota Corolla abroad vs Naija

The greed of the owner is alarming. I don't know why we are so wicked and think about money above human lives. The owner should be tried for man slaughter in the least.

Lagos houses are highly overpriced!!!
2 billi gini? For that tasteless thing?
The concentration of investments in Lagos ismthe main reason for this..
There is no definite metric for pricing
Just demand and supply
That's all
As long as the demand and perception is high
The price will always be high
There are areas in Accra that the cheapest house there is $400k

Which apartment is $5m?
This one in a dirty, third world country with no amenities ,you are literally providing even water and power yourself, dirty street with port holes and traffic with hold ups .
People don't have taste
This property in dubai goes for less than 450k usd
With every basic things ,social amenities ,beautiful city .
I laugh when those that live in Lagos think they are living in a mega city lol, landlord travel and see
dre11:

An online flyer pitched the building as “Luxury in the Sky.” It was 80 per cent completed prior to the collapse and was expected to start running in 2022.

They claim it was 65% sold so you know this man will disappear with the remaining.

My question is what is wrong with Nigerians that you are making all this money but would not use good quality materials to build so you don’t kill people and your own destiny?

It gets really sad when you see things like this happening, you rarely see things like this in the western world were building codes/laws are been adhered to strictly. Disasters like this are avoidable but because of greed building collapse has become a norms in Nigeria. Every building has its structural standards that must be followed to the letter but you'll see engineers on site trying to go against specifications in order to cut costs and make more profits or clients on the order hand telling the engineers to minimize the use of materials so he can save more. Sometimes even when the engineers refuses to compromise on quality the client would tell him to go saying he's too expensive and look for one quack who's ready to do their bidding. It's even more sad that relevant agencies who are supposed to check these irregularities are given stipend and by so doing they forget about it and move on the next site.

I have left construction projects due to the fact that clients wants me to compromise in most cases. There was a project i was handling for a very popular church in 2016 it's an event centre, the structural drawings says a base of 4ft by 4ft is to be used with 16mm reinforcement bars. But these guys came saying using it as specificied will consume much money that they will want me to use 2ft by 2ft base with 12mm reinforcement bars as the columns. Well long story short i left the project as i told them i can't compromise the structural details as regards the building.

It's very important to maintain your integrity as Proffesionals so as not to stain yourself at the long run, forget about the money involved cos it's not worth other people's lives when the damage eventually occurs.

Money can't buy integrity. Rip to those that lost their lives...

Building code is adhered to in many African countries like Morocco, Rwanda and in the Middle East like UAE before you start talking of western world...we must stop worshipping the west as though they were God. Building collapse happens in USA all the time.... and UK too

Total greed and uncommon love of money finished the owner
.

He would have been more grounded if he had made effort to gentrify places like surulere or orile. You can't have expensive apartments like that in Lagos when the majority are living in a near slum and unimaginable conditions. Like those children that sang the national anthem in the lagoon.

If you dig deep into the background of that business, you may learn that traitors like tinubu are big financiers of that project.

This building didn't collapse on Friday, Saturday or Sunday but had to collapse on Monday when the Engineers were meeting. Hmm, I hope this matter is thoroughly investigated and someone is held accountable. I suspect an aggrieved Engineer or contractor caused it.
