Well let's assume she threw a mug at him

He testifies in court that she did.

Which opens the door for the prosecution to ask why, which forces him to admit that he entered her office in an angry and violent mood which allows the prosecution to argue that the woman reasonably feared for her life and acted in self defence by throwing the mug

Then there's the fact he had illicit drugs in his system at the time.

Which makes things look bad for the student

He should have walked out and gone to the police the minute the mug was thrown and filed a report. Maybe it would have been the lecturer in trouble..

I condemn his act of beating his lecturer and someone older than him and a woman for that matter. 3 crimes in one.
However the Lecturer should also face punishment from either the court or from the school for throwing a Tea Mug at him which triggered the said beating.

That her action is a violent act that shouldn't go unpunished.

What he did was legally and morally wrong based on media reports. Even on the reports the evidence does not suggest a case of attempted murder. The suspect was alleged to have punched and kicked the lecturer and she suffered little or no injuries. He's not reported to have used broken glass or other objects. Based on the reports, he should be charged for assault and malicious damage to property. Let's not forget though that lawyers (including "charge & bail" ones) are waiting to be engaged by the suspect and during trial the story can change, even to the extent that the lecturer may look like she should be the one that ought to be arraigned and not the student.

The media suppose ask the guy about his side of story, according to what I heard I was told the lecture threw mug at the guy b4 beating her, I graduated from unilorin and I know what most of this lecturer does if I have opportunity I suppose to go and beat most of them sef

Walked out and go to the police? Is that a joke? I don’t support him attacking her for any reason Bt if she did throw a mug at him without any physical provocation she needs to be held accountable too.

She claims he did so many things let investigations clear that up and get the truth.

One sad truth in this guy's situation is the fact that we are forgetting this state of his mental health, from all indication and from his illustrations he's been through a lot. Let us look at his own angle and ignore his irresponsibility, (he without sin should throw the first stone)
Guy said he was arrested for two months for a crime he didn't commit, what if it's true, he missed an entire SIWESS, and its a 6unit course, do you know he had pending carryovers? This is a guy that is willing to graduate, a lot of His peers would have given up along time, but he still tried.
I'm not there but I'm very sure with the state of his mental health the woman would have made a statement to trigger his temper. No everyone is normal, thank God for clothes.
I'm not justifying His sins, but I'm saying he needs therapy or rehabilitation. #itCouldBeAnybody

Good.

While I would state that he is innocent until proven guilty, I would also candidly hope that he is sentenced for the crime of assault because what he did was wrong. Even if he was 'hit by the mug' as many of his defenders state, he should have left the office and gone to the police, and it would have been the lecturer in court as the accused. Instead he attacked, and thus stepped into the trap that the advesary had laid for him.

Also, I would like to once again state my sadness at those who think that their lecturer should be assaulted because of 'mistreatment' In life you will meet a lot of pompous, crude, and need I say evil people. If you can react to them normally without losing your temper, you show great maturity, and great self control. Wishing violence on one's lecturer is the beginning step on a road you would not want to take. And how you react to the rude and pompous lecturers in your school is a preparation for how you would do it in the workspace. If you can handle it without losing your cool...you would make it in the workplace and in life. You would make it as a leader when you have to handle competing egos.

And again, this was not a case of mistreatment. The student was not being asked to leave the university, nor was he being 'unjustly marked' . He missed his SIWES and was being offered a second chance to do his SIWES...which meant an extra year in university.(He also had some carryovers , but that's another story.)

As has been said many times, we also need some more compassion from our lecturers, more help for struggling students, more clarification of certain university policies, better mental health help for problem students, and also ultimately, more funding for our universities.

Again, what this guy did was wrong. And the case is not looking good. He had been pestering his lecturer for ages, he had refused to bring proof of the illness that he claimed that stopped him from doing SIWES, and then he got upset when he was told he had to repeat a year. The lecturer did the right thing by telling him the truth....and he lost his temper for being told that he had to repeat a year. All I would say is how we respond to setbacks in life shows us the kind of person we are. And I don't think I have much sympathy for someone getting angry over an extra year ...to do the practical aspect of his course. The guy was not ready to learn how to handle his failure...and that's a big deficiency in my book.

Good morning.

I don't believe that hard drug narration cos we dealing with the Nigerian police they can frame you for anything.

But na case of assault so he gats face the penalty.

What about the lecturer she was violent towards the accused, so why leave her out of the punishment?

Abi it's normal for a lecturer to throw a tea mug at a student for making unnecessary demands, this is more like encouraging violence while trying to say you are discouraging it.

At least this would make some of those wicked lecturers understand that they are not invincible.

Inasmuch as I don't like the way he assaulted the lecturer , but asking him to wait for one year for missing an assignment he missed due to circumstances beyond his control is inhuman treatment. There could ve been.better alternative like allowing him to do the assignment and reducing some marks as penalty

She asked him to wait one year because that was the policy in place by the university and by extension the federal ministry of education.

Even if she was really symphatetic to his plight there was really nothing she could do.

Plus the school had brought in a policy that students doing their SIWES had to present a verbal and written report of their activity. Plus there is , I believe a log book they have to fill and sign and it has to be signed by a staff at the place where they did their SIWES and stamped

Could only fuful that if he actually did the thing.

My take on this is that lecturers who assult students should also be given the same treatment. Back then in school I remember a lecturer who was known to have physically assulted a lot female and male students . I was actually a witness, you need to see the slaps and punches and kicks metted out to this female student and nobody could do anything to him because of fear. This man is currently a PhD holder in the same school, and he has never been procecuted . See how swift he was expelled and procecuted . Can this same treatment be given to our lecturers

It can and it should. No one should support violence but the case here is a student beating a FEMALE lecturer... the person is someone's wife, mother, grand mother and sister.

Even in the western world that we always try to copy, this is unacceptable and it is called assault.

The guy should be thrown to PRISON for a decade or more. No time
