It's a cat, only Felis domesticus eats rodents like that. Check your ceiling or check round for the slightest accessible space. There's no way that is not a Felis attack

Don't stress yourself brother the rat was killed by "Aśirin" that rat with pointed nose(Roof rat) . Similar thing happened at my place of work.

I saw that small grass beside our office shaking vigorously in the night and when I move closer I saw asirin- Roof rat holding scorpion tight with it pointed nose, I was scared I was even thinking that it is other way round. Then not long enough after dragging it to another location I found the scorpion dead already but the asirin (roof rat) is gone.

I quickly called our guard attention to it, when he saw it he said it is asirin and before day break it will come back and pick it up to eat. To my surprise at the day break I couldn't fine anything there again. So relax it handwork of those pointed nose rat, and they hardly harm human being.

I strongly suspect a carnivorous reptile (like snake).
Get a furniture maker to open the upholstery of your furniture... Snakes hide in chairs.
Also check the kitchen cabinet if you have it...

I said he is not directly endangered not that he's not endangered. Let me explain further, if they were to be snakes, I would say he could be directly endangered since if it is shrew, then, he doesn't need to panic or start running Helter skelter. Most times shrews travel several kilometers just to feed and carry on. 'Directly' and 'indirectly'

Came 15mns back later on to have it disposed off properly… It’s been eaten off right by the side, Quite concerning I decided to leave it there….. The mistake you made was that you should have placed a camera (Wireless cam or at least a motion activated recorder to monitor that rat. You would have been able to tell whatever came in by reviewing the videos the following day.

Now that the rat has disappeared, it is indeed worrisome to not be able to decipher what took it away from there.

And I don't wanna belive another rat could have done all that. Perhaps it's a cat and cats do have a way of crawling thru ceilings or small holes in walls much like rats do.
