Honda Civic Fuel Consumption At 7km Per Liter by Presbeuo(m): 7:29am On Feb 22, 2022
Hi guys

Please, is my Honda Civic 2006(4 plugs engine) doing well by consuming 7km per liter for city driving, with AC on all through. In other words, it does approximately 350km on full tank of 50 liters in city driving.

I will appreciate your contributions. Thank you

Don't think so. My Camry 2.4 is doing 8.5km/l with AC for city driving. Your civic 1.8 should be doing up to 9.5km/l for city driving

It depends on the amount of time you spend on city traffic with your a/c on. Ideally, the Honda Civic is meant to do 500km per full tank on highway driving. So city driving with the ac on, should be between 300-400km. So your civic is not doing bad. You can also pour fuel injector cleaner into your fuel tank after each oil change, to improve gas mileage.

This is poor fuel economy. Scan for error codes.

is poor bro, considering the level of civic fuel economy.

I can't categorically say it's poor. But the quality of PMS in the last 14days definitely reduced the mpg of my civic.

I was getting 400-450km on a full tank of city driving before the adulterated PMS was imported.

This 350km I’ve been getting is before the adulterated PMS ish. However, there have been times I’ve done almost 400 depending on traffic situations

Please the 400-450km you got, is it with AC or without AC? Thanks man

I use Civic 2006. I get at least 280miles (462km) from full tank until the yellow light comes up. I think something is wrong in your car. Run a scan and pull out the codes let's look at it.

Good morning, I have the same problem with my Honda Civic European model.
I just bought the car a month ago.

The fuel consumption is with 6-7km/L

No check engine light(replaced all the sensors that were faulty or failed).

Please I need a solution to this excessive fuel consumption problem.

How did you arrive at this calculation?

Divided the number of km traveled by litres of fuel consumed.

It's even worse during this fuel scarcity,
Half tank of fuel gives me 130km or less depending on where I buy fuel

It's not normal. A number of things could cause the increase fuel consumption. Guess work will only cost you more money so please do a scan. Post the results here.
Or buy a scanner from Jumia and scan the car yourself. It's DIY

My friend owns a scanner,
I made sure I fixed the trouble codes,
I bought and changed
MAF sensor
Air filter
o2 sensors
Engine coolant sensor
And there's no check light anymore.

But the car still guzzles fuel, unlike the reviews and ratings from Honda users.

You should be doing roughly 26mpg or 11km per litre. That's the factory specs. Given the age of the vehicle and wear and tear, there will be some losses but not to 7km per litre.
Use a superior scanner which can also scan the transmission. By the way does the transmission change easily?

Engine is smooth,
No misfires or rough idle.

Transmission is smooth too.

One auto electrician asked me to change my ECU aka brain box, saying it's the problem

Everything is just tiring.

Final bit from my end is that your car should be running on closed loop and not open loop.
You will know this with your scan tool after driving the car around for a while to let all the sensors kick in.

So after driving around for a while, check the fuel status with the tool. Don't switch off the car.

Bros, I advise you wait till this fuel scarcity is over before you conclude.
The quality of fuel in circulation is questionable.

Even my civic that is a fuel repellant started consuming fuel the moment adulterated fuel entered Naija.
Had to park it down.

What weight of oil are you using?
I have actually confirmed that 5w20 full synthetic gives the R18 civic an edge fuel economy-wise.

NOT GOOD for your engine.
You should never expect near-factory mpg values.

What's your tyre size ?

I bought 18 litres on Thursday,by today its 15l. I go do top up of 3k tmrw. So far its original fuel, not adulterated. Ac on 24/7 with top speed. No catalyst,no level.

It's 205/65/16

Tire pressure is 35psi

I can't afford synthetic oil, whats a good substitute?

Sure though mine don't have follow come catalyst,so I did an ebay mini catalyst spacer and now at least if I no do top up,latest by Wed thurs, fuel go empty.

Best tyre size is 195/65/15 or 205/55/16.

No alternative to 5w20 synthetic oil. It lasts for at least 10,000km. Do the mathematics and you will see that you can actually afford it.. wink

How many Kilimotres do you do with 18 or 15 litres?

Mine maximum is 100km for 18litres with AC off and on if I want it to get to 100km

Mine doesn't have a catalytic converter,
All the mechanics and panel beaters are putting the excessive fuel consumption on the catalyst
