The Lagos State Government has borrowed over N126 billion domestically in the last quarter of 2021, the Debt Management Office (DMO) has said.

According to a report released by the DMO, Lagos, whose domestic debt stood at N532.12 billion as of September 30, 2021, is now owing N658.95 billion as at the end of December, 2021.

This represents an increase of N126.83 billion in the last three months of the year 2021, according to the DMO.

DAILY POST observed that Lagos is the State with the highest domestic debt figure as of the time under review.

Ogun State comes second with a total of N232.62 billion debt as of December.

Ogun’s debt profile rose from N192.41 billion to N232.62 within three months, making a debt increase of N40 billion.

Rivers State is the third with N225.50 billion, even as the State’s domestic debt reduced by about N850million.

At the moment, Akwa Ibom State debt stands at N214.60 billion, from N234.85 billion in September.

In Imo State, the domestic debt soared from N151.31 to N205.18; being an increase of N53.87 from October to December, 2021.

While Cross River owes N159.81 billion, Bayelsa, Delta and Plateau are owing N154.613bn, N154.61 billion and N150.49 billion respectively.

Oyo debt profile is now N142.56, as Osun struggles with N134.70 billion.

Aside from Benue with N128.34 and Kano with N111.89, other States and the FCT have domestic debts lower than N100billion.

With N31.35 billion, Jigawa is the State with the lowest domestic debt, followed by Ebonyi with N42.16 billion.

The DMO disclosed that the total debt profile for the 36 States and the FCT is now N4.45 trillion, as against N4.19 trillion in September last year.

It is understood that a huge chunk of the borrowings of Lagos state ends up inside the bullion vans of the notorious iragbiji born criminal at his residence in Bourdillon.
Like Oliver Twist's, "the boy who wanted more", Tinubu's penchant for more and more looted funds knows no bounds little wonder A former Managing Director of Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP, Oladapo Apara, said the firm has got over N150 billion as 10 per cent commission for “computing, tracking and reconciling” Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue since the year 2000.

Check through all the SW states and see the heavy amounts they are borrowing yet they claim to be leading in IGR.

You can't claim to be leading in IGR yet you borrow like a broke drunk and there is no meaningful development in your state.

Ebonyi debt is 42 billion while Ekiti is 106 billion.

SOUTH WEST

Ekiti 106 billion

Lagos 659 billion

Ogun 233 billion

Ondo 64 billion

Osun 135 billion

Oyo 143

TOTAL = 1.34 trillion

Average debt per state = 223.3

SOUTH EAST

Abia 95 billion

Anambra 56 billion

Ebonyi 42 billion

Enugu 69 billion

Imo 205

TOTAL = 467 billion

AVERAGE = 93.4

South West is criminally overrated

As far as they use the loans for laudable projects anf have workable means to pay back...I only pity states without commercial deposit of mineral resources, miserable IGR and yet borrowing anyhow...their future generations will either pray for or curse them...grin

Every State on earth is in debt

Lagos keeps borrowing in billions , yet the state house of assembly has refused to domesticate Freedom of information Act .

So the government can keep borrowing to high heavens , give out inflated contracts, etc. and u don't even get to question them on how these borrowed sums are spent. smh.

As of today, nobody outside government has the breakdown of Lagos state government's spending's; no transparency whatsoever. It's just funny how people who claim to be well learned believe things are okay this way.
