poor animal

it was traumatized at the treatment meted to it, probably died of a broke heart

it is known that elephants are highly intelligent and even mourn their dead for long periods of time
true

They also remember hunters who kill one of their herds

A poacher was seen coming near an elephant herd which he poached about 10 years ago and the mother’s circled the youngs while the males pursued the guy.

Nigeria has failed both man and animal. Any good thing they touched, dies off. What a country
I agree with you absolutely. I almost shed tears reading the story!

Anything that enters their hand must get ........ The poor animal has been coming from GOD knows where ? only to get to the environment of cannibals who know nothing than eat, eat and eat ....like educated people like village people. Even their university couldn't help

If they'd killed and eaten d elephant the very day they saw it would have been better than making the elephant died a harrowing death. Human life doesn't even worth a kobo in Nigeria, how much more that of an animal.

There are wildlife parks were the elephant could have been taken to. There it could definitely fend for itself.
Like which one?

Experts indeed. They tranquilized that elephant to death. Be wary of 'experts'.

I doubt if they have the resources to handle transporting the elephant.

What a pity

When people see exotic animals in Nigeria and eat them, I don't blame them because our zoos are animal mortuaries and poorly run.The animals will starve.Go to OAU zoo on Ife and see how sick the lion is.Better to die than starve so badly. They surely don't have the expertise to look after the elephant, now it's dead.

To the OP, so what beats you in the decision? They should leave it to roam about or take it to your house?
