Fulanis are accused of doing a lot, especially under the radar. But once Buhari came out, everything was made loud and clear and hyper-aggressive. The end result is they have lost all of the ground that had gained since this Nigeria project began. Hausa is no longer claiming them. You can no longer say 'Hausa-Fulani' to an Hausa man. Middle belt is no longer claiming them, cow is extinct in SE, they're fighting them in SW, and upon all the fighting, nobody in the north is sympathizing or helping. Ruga is dead and gone. Open grazing is dead and gone. Kano emirate is broken into several pieces. And now young Fulani man have taken to kidnapping en masse in the NW. Worst, within conversations of ordinary Fulani, they are ready to lynch their 'leadership' because what Buhari has shown them. It is even their main advocates (El Rufai for example) that they are specifically trying to kill. Absolutely 0 ground has been made. Unity gone. The name Fulani now means something it did not mean 8 years ago.
