Weeks after snapping up discounted Russian crude, India is setting for a major increase in its purchases of coal from the sanctioned country. The world’s sixth biggest economy is focused on its energy security, disregarding attempts by the US and its allies to isolate Moscow.

In March, India’s coal imports from Russia reportedly surged to a two-year high. The Asian country purchased 1.04 million tons of Russian coal, the highest amount since January 2020, according to Matthew Boyle, lead dry bulk analyst at commodity intelligence firm Kpler, as cited by CNBC.

Last week, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order banning the import of Russian coal along with crude oil, gasoline, petroleum products, oils and liquefied gas as part of a new batch of penalties against Moscow over its military operation in Ukraine. Later, the European Commission proposed banning Russian energy imports, including coal. However, the bloc’s policy-makers have failed to agree on a new package of sanctions.

“Markets suspect that India and China may boost coal imports from Russia, offsetting some of the impact of a formalized EU ban on Russian coal imports,” Vivek Dhar, director of mining and energy commodities research at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia told media.

Last week, India’s steel minister Ramchandra Prasad Singh said that the country is looking to double imports of Russian coking coal, a vital ingredient for steel-making. Singh added that India had imported 4.5 million tons but did not indicate the period he was referring to.

Coal accounts for nearly 70% of India’s electricity generation, according to the International Energy Agency’s 2021 outlook. The nation is ranked as the world’s second-biggest consumer and importer of coal, after China. Last year, India was hit by a coal shortage amid soaring post-pandemic power demand.

Russia is the world’s sixth-largest coal producer. In 2020, 54% of the nation’s coal exports reportedly went to Asia, while about 31% went to Europe.

“Despite warnings from the West, India continues to lean into their supply-chain relationship with Russia for natural resources like oil and coal,” Samir N. Kapadia, head of trade at government relations consulting firm Vogel Group explained.

According to the analyst, a currency swap agreement would help the partners “to bypass some of the financing challenges in the market.”

Vladimir Putin "It is impossible to isolate a large country like Russia"

Na now I dey understand Wetin putin talk here sef grin When Putin said this, he wasn't talking aboit Russia's huge land masses. He was referring to Russia's natural resources since apparently Russia is the country with the most natural resources in the entire world

https://www.statista.com/statistics/748223/leading-countries-based-on-natural-resource-value/

This means that in dark hours like this, Russia can just start doing bonanza with their unlimited natural resources and customers go line up full everywhere grin
China has been ramping up import of Russian Oil, gas, coal etc. India said they cannot let this bonanza by the Russians pass them by grin
Turkey said they will NOT sanction Russia as doing that may complicate the access they currently have to Russian cheap oil, gas and other resources. Japan immediately commented that Tearing off the oil contract they have with Russia is not on the table. South Korea, the so called USA ally too is busy ramping up Russian goods import. Hungary said they are ready to pay in Ruble or any currency russia wants, provided they continue getting that cheap, oil and gas russia showers her customers with grin OPEC said they cannot afford to lose Russian gas grin

Meanwhile, to celebrate this invasion, Russia needs to secure one thing in ukraine.
There's a huge, like extremely huge oil reserve in the shores of Crimea. Russia secured that one in 2014. Now, Ukraine's biggest natural resources reserve is located in Donbas, Eastern Ukraine. If Ukraine loses that, they've lost everything. I'm readong now that Russian troops are gathering for a major offensive to capture Donbas and other eastern states in ukraine. If putin can get Donbas, and that sweet untapped oil, Russia wins, Ukraine loses big time

Russia will not go down as far as those key countries don't join western sanctions.
Meanwhile, they say whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Peskov said they are working day and night to stabilize the situation and that they've been preparing for this barrage of sanctions from the west for long now.

God bless Mother Russia

Zelensky remaims the most funny clown that I know of. Most of the so called western countries that are criticizing Russia and Sympathizing with Ukraine are gaining from Russia's invasion. Take for instance, USA had been looking for the perfect chance to force Germany to half NS2. Now they've achieved that. They've also, because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, signed LNG deals with the EU. something that wouldnt have happened if they didn't push Ukraine to poke the bear. Others like China, India, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Brazil etc are busy enjoying Russia's bonanza, hoping the war never ends as that might mean the end of the bonanza grin
Meanwhile, Russia is currently selling its oil for more than 5 times the amount pre-invasion, to the EU. meaning they're raking in billions everyday. It's no wonder Bloomberg sited experts saying Russia would collect more than $200 billion for just oil this year. So Russia is gaining massively too grin grin grin

At the end of the day, it is Ukraine and the EU that will bear the brunt. The EU will start buying oil for more than 3x the amount they used to from hence, irrespective of whether the war ends or not. Russia go show them shege well as they've termed them "unfriendly countries". If they decide that they've had enough of Russia's shakara, their only option would be USA who sells theirs for 6x times the russians sell theirs.

And as for Ukraine. All their infrastructures are being bombed to rubble. It is, reported that ujraine has lost more than $60billion worth of infrastructures so even if the west decides to rebuild after the war, the country would still go on to be a shadow of its former self.
Also, the biggest punch Russia can give to Ukraine is capturing Donbas which I'm sure they will. It's like Britain invading Nigeria, taking over South south and Lagos. Let's say Nigerian troops then manage to stop them from taking more. With just south south and Lagos, they've would've left Nigeria in a very pitiable condition. Donbas holds the biggest reserve of Ukraine, even after Crimea. If putin gets his hands on the whole of Donbas, he should pull back his troops and even tell zelensky to join NATO since NATO membership is the only thing the clown thinks and dreams about. grin

Russia's oil is the cheapest now because of the invasion of Ukraine.

India is just exploiting the situation, nothing more

Now, if Russia goes ahead to invade Sweden and Finland, lets see if China and India will still patronise them

Bros, you forget to add ukraine will have mo access to sea and that means they become land locked...no seaport for business or even fisheries industry will vanish.

All ukraine had to do to avert this was to say no to nato but yes to business from all... and respect to all...but for piece of silver thier puppet leaders sold the country like suya.

its understandable that India needs coal more than anything and buying it at point price from Russia now is a good advantage to them cos they are seen as Russian friendly country, India wasn't convincing enough about cutting down its carbon footprint at the c0p26 in Glasgow despite pleas by the UK pm to force India to shorten their carbon emissions transition to 2026, India is one of the biggest contributor to climate change in the world and has made it clear that it does not have plans of phasing out coal in.the.nearest future

Over 1B citizens to feed.
India need cheap oil and gas.
South Korea have increased their purchase of Russia oil and gas.
Japan have refused to pulled out of gas and oil deal with Russia as alternative are too expensive for Japanese citizens.
All Russia needed now is Odessa to connect Russia land to Moldova and connect all Russia speakers in one place making Ukraine landlocked

Putin have signed into law to transfer Russia infrastructures of Russia oil and gas from west to market in the east and far Asia.

Ukraine president said to the head of the European Commission,Ursula von der Leyen, that Ukraine needs $ 7 billion a month to pay salaries‼️ is closer and closer to BANKRUPTCY

Only if we have good thinking Africa leaders that can come together and also demand western countries go buy out products in our local currencies not Dollar or Euro.
We don’t even have our own financial system shocked
