How many have you seen before in real life to make you arrive at that conclusion?

Red signifies power (or danger), maybe it's to tell your subconscious of the charm's potency and power.
Black signifies resilience, doesn't get stained, could indicate the charm's reliability in all situations.

This is just a scientific approach to the question!

Also, evil operates in darkness, and black represents darkness. Blood is red, blood is shed in the preparation of most charms, animals or not. Even good-purposed charm can be red, because blood is life.
