Hello reader's, I will be taken a week break from this thread to grieve over the passing of my dad. Just recieved the sad news from my mom this very day (01-22-2022 by 8:40 EST).

I'm completely broken.

My trip to Nigeria is scheduled for the month of April and I was visiting with my 6 year old son so he can see his grandma and grandpa and vice-versa and this unfortunate incident struck.

You need to realize that your book description isn’t a summary of your book — it’s an ad meant to hook your readers and sell your book.

Think of your own book description as a blurb that informs potential customers what to expect should they choose to buy your book. Your book description goes most prominently on the back cover and it must be compelling because readers make buying decisions from the book description.

The book description is the pitch to the reader about why they should buy your book. When done right, it directly drives book sales and if you get it wrong, then your book is doomed right from the get-go. Remember, people are looking for a reason to not buy your book, so having a good back cover description is key to keeping them on the purchasing track.


How to Write A Book Description

1. Write A Compelling Headline : Make the first sentence something that grabs them and forces them to read the rest. Hook your reader by asking a question or by making a provocative statement to get a reader’s attention and inspire them to continue reading.

2. Describe The Current Pain They Are In: This strategy is very effective in leading your reader to start entertaining the idea of buying your book. Clearly and directly articulate the unsolved problems they have in plain and simple language.

3. Describe How Your Book Will Solve Their Pain: State what your book does to help them solve their pain. Be clear about the benefits, don’t insinuate them. You are selling a result to the reader, not a process (even though your book is the process). Explain exactly what the book is about, in clear, obvious terms.

4. Keep it short: Somewhere between 150 and 250 words and no more than three paragraphs. You don’t want to bore people into putting the book down. I always go with bullet points and it has proven to be very effective.


The Blunt Truth
You won’t get it right the first time. Just like anything else, writing a book description takes study and practice.

Pick out a few books and read their descriptions. Jot down what makes them intriguing? When you’re reading descriptions in the store or online, be aware of what hooks you and what doesn’t and why.

Write one description for your book. Then write another. Then write a third. All for the same book.

Show all three to family, peers, people on the street if you want. Get feedback. Which description do they prefer? Would they read it based on what the description says? If not, why?

It’s important to hear what others think. You’re trying to sell the thing! (To strangers, no less.) Pay attention to feedback and rework as needed.

Keep at it. You’ll land the perfect book description eventually.

Anyways, I'm gonna heal and pick up myself once again and start updating this thread from where I stopped.

While I was grieving and mourning over the passing of my dad, my published books on Amazon where still selling and generating me some good income as well without me doing nothing which is why this business model is the right one for anyone willing to put in the work.

Thanks to all my reader's, followers and well wishers and I can't thank you all well enough.
