Speaking of passport, does anyone know what the heck is going on. I recently checked the Nigerian embassy website to check the renewal process as my passport in expiring later this year. What started as an exploratory exercise quickly turned into a depressing adventure as there are people who went for biometric capture in February/March still waiting for their passport and the constant retort from the embassy official that there are no booklets. It's a woeful tale of lamentations and it's scary.

Also, the ambassador promised back in February that the 10-year validity passport will rolled out soon and there is no word on that yet. No surprise there knowing how Nigeria rolls.

Finally, does anyone know the stipulations about flying into Nigeria with an expired Nigerian passport but with a valid Canadian one?

I flew to Nigeria with an expired passport few months ago.I am also in North America.

Just make sure you book Ethiopian Airline. They were the only one who accepted to fly me.
Mind you,if you are still a PR/ Green Card holder, make sure you have already plan on how to renew your Passport before you travel back. You can’t fly back with an expired Passport. If you have a dual Citizen, you are good.

In addition, even though the Minister of Interior said you can travel to Nigeria with an expired Passport. When you get to arrivals, those crooks known as Immigration officer will still want to obtain you, just change your accent and let them know you have permission from Abuja to fly down.Don’t give them any shishi.

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a short let apartment in Calgary between now and the end of September.

I am looking to come back to Naija in September. Kindly reach out if there is any. It’s just me, no family here.

That passport issue has been an ongoing crisis.

With respect to your question:
You can get an emergency travel document of some sort from the embassy that can allow you travel to Nigeria without a visa(the document together with Canadian passport should be enough - according to Aregbesola and Abike).

See this link https://nigeriahcottawa.ca/emergency-travel-certificates/

Or you can apply for naija visa.

Thank you, Mazi. Appreciate your feedback. Crazy to think I'll have to fork out 150 dollar for a one -time travel document as a result of the embassy's incompetence but here we are. Thanks once again.

CountVersailles:

It has been a plain disaster at the embassy regarding passports. Having captured in March, I'm also still waiting from my passport and I've heard nothing positive from the embassy. If you know that your passport is expiring soon, you are better off applying for renewal right at this moment, or obtaining a new passport while you are in Nigeria. Don't even bother relying on the Ottawa embassy at any point, if you don't want to be grossly disappointed.

Thank you. The problem is I don't want to submit my Nigerian passport to the embassy and be stuck without it. There are numerous example on the Nigerian embassy thread on why this is just a bad idea because you don't have the new passport and your old one is stuck with the embassy. I think I'll rather wait until things clear up in Ottawa or just renew my passport while in Nigeria.

fredoooooo:

Get a visa on the Canadian passport , and sort your Nogeria P out in Nigeria ..
In Swiss it's an easy ride to get but in Germany it's war , the officials of the Nigeria Embassy act like they're still in Nigeria ..

Oga fredoooooo, long time. I hope you and yours are doing well. Are you still the Italian spirits of Switzerland. Thanks for your suggestion. I think getting my passport renewed while in Nigeria seems like my best best at this time.

Thank you very much for this. I will definitely go this route. I have a Canadian passport so exiting Nigeria is not my worry but actually entering it. And thanks for the suggestion about navigating customs, I should be able to switch on my "agbero" accent on command.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions, I appreciate it.

Thanks for this. Been looking at GIC rates since. You can check tangerine bank as well, they offer 3.25% for 5months.

With inflation currently running at almost 8%, you'll be incurring an asset depreciation of almost 5% (assuming inflation doesn't go higher). You are better off keeping your money in a piggy bank and looking at it everyday.

You do not have to drop your passport after applying. But when you new passport is ready, you would have to mail the old one to them before collecting the new one. I also didn't drop my passport. I just captured.

The wider problem is that the Nigerian embassy in Ottawa is running a passport black market, though many people are not aware of this. I have this on good authority. When the new passports come in, the corrupt handlers sell to the highest bidder at prices varying from 500-1000CAD, but you have to know some of their corrupt heads there to get on that list. This means there are less passports to go around for those on the real queue who have only paid 50CAD. It's sad, but the corruption taking place in that god-forsaken embassy is on a different level. This means they have vested interest in not seeing to the end of the booklet scarcity.

I disagree. How's the uninvested money you are staring at in your piggybank escaping inflation if you don't use it immediately?

Hello folks,
I applied for US visitor visa in Toronto 2 months ago but i was refused. i am a PR holder. I have been issued b1/b2 visa back in Nigeria 2 times. my kids were born in USA and hospital fees were paid in full.
I want to ask if anyone has been in my shoes and if they later issue the visa.
Thanks in advance

Dear Seniors,

Please i need your advice and guidance on how easy/fast it is to get passport renewed in Canada.

I am due to start my 1 year program in September at UNB Saint John. However, my passport will expire 1st week of february 2023 hence my Visa expiry date is tied to it.

I want to ask if i can start the online renewal process before I leave Nigeria so I can get an appointment once I resume or I should wait till I get there before starting the process. Also, how easily can one got to Ottawa from Saint John?

Many thanks.

Since your passport is expiring in less than a year, I will advise that you simply renew it in Nigeria before you start coming. Alternatively you may wish to book an appointment at the embassy before your arrival, ensure the appointment date falls within your second month of arrival (if you intend to leave your passport in the embassy), that way you can use your passport for all the processes that will require passport presentation within your first month of arrival.

Do consider the need for you to travel to Ottawa for the renewal application and the protracted wait time. You may be lucky to get your passport ready within three months of application. Remember you also need to pay 50CAD (in the form of money order to the embassy) in addition to the regular passport fee you will pay online (108USD).

Wishing you all the best

You simply reapply again.

Being a PR here doesn’t give you added advantage.

Just apply again when you are ready.

it does. Even students are getting it. The guy probably violated his visiting visa terms when they went to give birth then. Many people have been banned for this

I would have advised you try to wait a little while in Nigeria and get it done once and for all but dropping the expiring passport is not an option since that's where your visa is stamped.

1. You can go ahead and travel with your passport. You will sought it in Canada. The Nigerian Association in New Brunswick do collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa to assist Nigerians in the province who need to renew their passport. They just recently concluded an exercise but not sure when the next one will take place.

Once you get to New Brunswick and join the WhatsApp group. You will be informed when they are going to start another exercise.

2. Another option is you starting the online process in Nigeria as some guys have advised and then you come and continue in Canada.

You can weigh your options. All the best with classes!

Please what is gst/hst

It is just a replica of our Nigerian VAT in layman's language. It is a tax levied on the price of the groceries we buy at each stage of the supply chain( production, distribution and consumption of those items). It is like an indirect tax because the consumer who pays the tax + purchased item differs from the person who remits this to Canadian Revenue Authorities.

The customer pays the tax while the seller remits these taxes. However, the tax structure differs from province to province.

No one has the right to collect your old expired Passport when you go for renewal.
They only need to sight it when you go for capturing.

When I did mine, they asked for it, showed them, got captured and left with my old Passport.
I have the old and new one with me.

If you really know your way, you can capture in September and get your new Passport before travelling(Rub palm).

Nigerian Embassies abroad will make life frustrating for you when you want to renew.
