Graphics design can be very challenging at times, if you are good in facing challenging... go for the island.

Meanwhile, if you want an easy task, go for the mainland.

So, the choice is base on your capability!

NB: Op there's nothing like "staffs" ...the plural and singular forms of that word is thesame.

Not true in every context. When u are talking about two companies, for example, then u can say staffs. The staffs of NTA and AIT....catch my drift?

Career Path: The island job looks promising because it is a large company , there might be a chance of self development or career growth but the mainland is just a store and I will probably be doing the same thing everytime.

Good evening everyone.

Recently, My boss have to laid off all his staffs due to some issues in his business.

Last week, I got two jobs offers:

1. On the island (lekki); It is an outsourcing firm and I got the role of graphic designer but the pay is 50k, Monday - Friday (8:30am - 4:30pm).

2. On the mainland (Ikeja) : it is a store where they sell fashion items like jewelries and the likes. The role is social media manager but the way the boss explained the role, it is more of online sales person. The pay is 60k, Monday - Saturday (8am - 6pm).

The issues I am having:

1. Career Path: The island job looks promising because it is a large company , there might be a chance of self development or career growth but the mainland is just a store and I will probably be doing the same thing everytime.

2. Monthly expenses: I am currently staying on the island with my former boss which is a bit far from both places. And I calculated my monthly cost on transportation, it is 25-30k for both places.

Please advise me on which to choose. I have to resume for any of them by Monday

Thank you

Relocate than paying much expenses on transport. Take d one of 50k. You have a weekend to relax. So relocate near ur place of work than paying 20-25k on transport

So which of them is preferable

How do you want people to decide for you what is preferable and what isn't preferable?
Re: 50k In The Island Vs 60k In The Mainland by StUriah(m): 1:10pm On Jul 24, 2022
Stay on the Island and develop your skill and enlarge your network. As a graphic designer, go to Amazon Kindle store and create your own account and start making your own money and be self employed.

However, you will need to get connected with a reasonable, focused and gainfully employed lady on the Island, keep faith with the relationship if you really want to survive.

Choose the island job

You are already familiar with the terrain

There's possibility of you getting another good offer around island

To me I see island job as something that will enable you to make use of Ur head in a creative ways because you can combine some online side hustle (legit hustle please n not fraudulent ones)

To me you will have more time for yourself to think on how to develop yourself

Funny guy. Do you know how many senior managers of oil firms stay in Magodo, Omole, Ogudu, Ikeja, Gbagada?
When you have spent your entire life rolling with paupers like you, you can't appreciate the mainland because you are sentenced to living in slums.
Mainland is irritating. The rent of some houses in Ikeja GRA will buy your entire family and put them in nylon bag.

My thoughts, anyway grin

Lol. Why wait a year to save such a sum from a job with no career path when he can pick the first job, then upskill and move on to a better job? In a year to 2, he won't earn that 50k again. Better still, he can even get better-paying remote jobs.

Look both jobs are paying peanuts. Forget the pay because neither of them is better.

Pursue what will allow you to grow and develop as a professional. With time you can easily get a remote job doing graphics if you develop enough. You have a skill that is marketable globally so focus on developing that.

Island, u r prone to being robbed at Iyana Oworo or ur danfo can stop at Ilubirin and those touts can extort u and then throw u inside the lagoon

How much is 10k over a job that has a definite career path? Assuming he'd be saving that 10k, by the end of the year, he would be having 120k, what substantial thing can that 120k do for him? And that's if dollar would not have risen to 1000N and inflation rendering the money useless. Don't be myopic.

Staff is a collective noun that cannot be pluralized. Its like saying sheeps instead of sheep. What did you score in english waec? Olodo labata

There is. But, the usage is different.

There are multiple definitions of the word as well.

Staff (i): A noun which describes a group of employees, officers, and/or other group of people that work together.

Plural: "Staffs". Have it in mind that this is rarely used. If I’m talking about all the people that work for a single company, the word remains "staff" as it is a collective noun. You would only use the plural to discuss a situation where you had more than one staff working together.

Example: (i)The office has a staff of 100 employees.

OR

Example: (ii) Both companies sent their employees to the conference, and both staffs worked together to accomplish their goals.
