A Lagos Couple who lost four of their children to a midnight fire, Chukwudi Micheal and Bolani Micheal, have sought the help of Nigerians.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the fire gutted the couple’s two-room apartment on Tapa Road, Oke-Oko, Isawo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, on June 26.

Four children: Jeremiah, 12; Prayer, 18; Trust in God, 14; and Ebube, 10, died in the inferno.

The couple, who are left with their eight-year-old daughter, Esther, said life had been difficult for them after the tragedy.

The father of the children, Chukwudi, said the family had been struggling as their property and business were destroyed in the fire.

He said, “The fire incident not only claimed the lives of our children, but also took our means of livelihood. We do not know how to move on from here.

“God has been our support but we need Nigerians to help us get back on our feet. The sudden incident left us with no room to prepare. While nursing the heartache of losing our boys, we have to find our footings.”

His wife, Bolani, stated that the family was in distress.

She said, “We don’t know where to begin because we don’t have a place to stay and we are currently living with our pastor. Thank God for some good Samaritans who gave us clothes and some items to manage. We can’t always live with our pastor; we just pray that God will bring us back on our feet again.”

Some people are heavy sleepers.

Waking up to seeing fire around can destabilize them for minutes.

Time for sober reflections. Time to ask MANY QUESTIONS. The hopeless situations in Nigeria has made me extremely insensitive to human suffering because of the overwhelming cases of poverty-related deaths encountered minute-by-minute. How many will you cry for?

With all these names, what kind of God were they worshipping to allow such a gruesome sacrifice?

To add insult to injury . . . . Some will still say “in all things, we should give thanks”!

Thanks for what?

Matters arising:
A) 2 bedroom apt for SEVEN people? Nigeria and Lagos is truly the universal capital of POVERTY!

B) Asking for help from Nigerians. . . ?
What ever happened to “God will provide”? Why call on Nigerians for help?

C) The cause of the fire? Under normal circumstances, an investigation would show that the living conditions violated numerous fire codes that caused the death of those poor children.

D) Lack of social programs to assist displaced persons shows how useless a government is.

E) Illiteracy and lack of birth control are always recipes for socio-economic disaster.

F) Never think that your children will bury you in your old age. You may find yourself worse than people who never had children and you may have labored IN PAIN AND VAIN!
