Gardening On My Balcony - Tomatoes, Pepper, Groundnut, Ugu, Snail and Catfish by Neduzze5(m): 8:56pm On Apr 24, 2022
I recently rented a new apartment and part of my goals is to have a fish pond at the back balcony, grow some crops there, and also have a small snailery there as well.

It's a pretty small place, so I would need to make use of the space as judiciously as possible in order to ensure that I am able to achieve all that I have planned out for the space.

Over the next few months, I will be sharing my progress on the mobile pond, as well as the progress of my mini farm.

Endeavour to follow the thread, comment and stay tuned for more updates.

After delays based on busy schedules and all, the skeletal framework of the mobile fish pond is complete. Find the picture herein attached.

After feet dragging for a few months, I finally got to plant tomatoes and pepper.

I wanted to have Vegetable (Ugu seed) as well, but I've not been able to get the seed.

On Monday morning (8/8/22), before leaving for work, I planted nine groundnut seeds . Watching for when they will germinate.

My Groundnut plant at one week. Planted on the 8th of August, 2022.

Nine seeds were planted, only 3 have germinated so far.

I later realized that I didn't soak them in water to break their dormancy.

Hopefully, they'd germinate nevertheless.

My balcony isn't so much of a big one, and when there's little or nothing there, it always has some space.

I'm hoping to have between 6 to 8 sack bags there with three different plants per bag.

My plan is to have tomatoes, pepper, and groundnut in each bag.

Not sure how well they'd fare but hoping for the best. It's a pilot trial for now.

The catfish pond has had a little bit of setback. Not sure of how to set up the polyester fabric material I bought for it.

Need it to be in a square shape. Will take another look at it and consider how it can be done without having to sew it up.

Finally, will be sourcing for snails soon. Where I can get snails at pretty dirt cheap prices is far from my current location, and I won't be going there anytime soon.

So would ask someone to help me get, or buy from the local markets.

Wouldn't want to buy the big sized ones. I'd prefer those that are smaller in sizes.

I've not had that experience yet and this is actually my first time of planting pepper, so I'd be looking out for that when it's the time.

Besides, this is being done on a small scale, and on my balcony so it would be pretty controlled.

I don't plant in large scale, just around the house and the flies do affect it, if you stay in a town it may be OK, I stay in the rural area.

Went out a few minutes ago to check on them, and the tomatoes had their head drooping.

The sun was too hot today and seems like they were seriously affected.

I was planning to travel for three or four days but I don't think they'd survive at this rate.

I need to find a way to deliver water to them daily without my presence.
