Not related, may even cause dollar to fall.

Foreign Airlines that sold tickets in Naira approached CBN to exchange their Naira to dollar at official rate, so they can repatriate their profit back home to put back into the business, which is normal for any business out there.

Because of dollar scarcity and wanting to still shore-up her dollar reserves, CBN tactical say No by delaying the FX orders.

This delay have a pressure on the black market dollar rates, because Airlines who are under pressure goes through third parties and the black market to repatriate some money, thereby causing increase in dollar price.

With this release by CBN, those pressure on the black market attributed to these Airlines will reduce thereby likely reducing the price of dollar.
If you think dollar rise is driven by foreign airline repatriation, then you are not well informed about Nigeria's
current economic situation.

These airlines funds aren't even a recent event, it has been accumulating for months.
Even this release does not even cover everything.

The CBN delays and restricts forex because of scarcity. Period.
Any other explanation is just an attempt to hoodwink the gullible.

There has been no recent surge in forex earnings for Nigeria, so CBN playing hide and
seek on airline forex repatriation will have no long-term effect on the upward trend of dollar.

Of course, some novices will panic at a likely dip next week due to this "good news" not knowing that it is just
a temporary change. The trend will continue upward for the foreseeable future.

Note that airlines operating in Nigeria don’t do that. They wait to get the foreign currency through the CBN. If they try black market, the loss will be massive.

Even the foreign airlines hardly does it or they surfer massive loss too.
Their operational costs and fairs are based on Nigeria's official rates.

If he was correct, airlines would have quietly converted all their funds using the parallel market.

Someone should please explain the issue with trap funds

How do funds get trap when operators don't actually send their money to CBN for keeping

The airlines have these monies in local bank accounts...all in Naira. They are not allowed to charge in US Dollars.
The issue is Nigeria's huge differential between official and parallel rates. Up to N270 differential per dollar.

Airlines charge at official rate. But the CBN does not allow them to buy back the dollars at official rate to send back to their countries. They cannot afford to lose N270 on every dollar per transaction. They are not charity businesses.

CBN has no option than to create a special FX intervention window. If BA and Emirates stop flying to Naija, Atiku and all others whose kids are schooling in the UK will be in hot soup. That's why it took less than three days to create this window for the airlines to purchase dollars at concessionary prices.

But the children of the poor in public universities have no such succour. That's why 6 months down the road, no public universities are open.

Democracy is a system of government where the rich use the poor to get votes, just to get richer and create a system that favours only the rich while the poor languish.

Please tell him. These airlines funds have been stuck in their accounts for nearly 9 months.

Nigeria entered into swap agreements with refiners for imported petroleum products. Every dollar earned by Nigeria from crude goes to the refiners and products enter Nigeria with a premium on top of the dollars. The difference is the subsidy which we are told is now N4 trillion. In the last one year, not one dollar has entered NNPC coffers for remittance to the Federation account.

The importation of petroleum products accounts for two-thirds of Nigeria's dollar demand. Stopping this importation will shore up the Naira's value.

That means Nigeria needs more national airlines like air peace otherwise this trend of repatriating dollars is not sustainable at all.
Do you know the number of planes that would be required if only the local airlines were to cater for the entire international flights traffic from Nigeria? Our local industry just won't be able to handle it without massive capital investment.

You need to go read up about comparative and absolute advantage in regard to aviation. Naija has none. Air Peace still needs $$$ to pay air planes and parts. Software and services are billed in $$$.

This is Beautiful.

Let's hear from the horse's mouth....

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Peace Airlines, Allen Onyema, says it is untrue to say that President Muhammadu Buhari does not like the Igbos.

Onyema defended his viewpoint on Saturday on the grounds that his airline had hugely benefited from the current administration.

I’m a beneficiary of Buhari’s kindness to Igbos – Air Peace boss

“I thank God for our President, Muhammadu Buhari, it is very untrue that he does not like the Igbo.
Without me being a member of his party, or any party, I am a beneficiary of his support for indigenous businesses.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria has given me destinations they have never given anybody, yet I am an Igbo man, from Anambra,” Onyema said on an interview with Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

Furthermore, he stressed that people should not read negative meanings to the good works of the Buhari administration.

“I don’t know anybody, I don’t have any godfather, President Buhari through his minister, Hadi Sirika, has given me China, London, Portugal, the entire Europe, United States and India.
“He’s even given me Jedda, and I’m not a Muslim; the government has given me about twenty destinations to fly to.”

He added that;
“The President wants equal economic development everywhere.”

These are the Great and True Igbo men true igbos listen to.

Except if the airline company is originating from the US..
If not dy will buy Boeing planes with their dollars or request for gold in exchange for the dollars..

Reactive measures. Way out is to -
1. Fix power,
2. Take out corruption,
3. Ramp up on ease of doing business across ALL productive sectors,
4. Identify exportable goods and services and actively encourage the utilisation of export Windows.
5. Drastically reduce the cost of running government by cutting salaries and emoluments of political appointees and elected public officials. That way, folks who seek to access public office for financial gains are less attracted to political and elective offices leaving the political space for the focused on service delivery.

They can’t spend Naira in there country. So they need to convert to dollars. And dollars is scarce. CBN is the bank that clears the funds of any thing Nigeria is buying or selling. So you can only buy such huge forex from CBN. No alhaji get 400m$ cash to exchange for Naira.
