Hello house, I have a 2013 Kia Rio with shifting problem. I had noticed sometimes that whenever I shift to *D* and try to move, the car feels so heavy like it's dragging something behind. What I normally do is turn off the engine and start it again and the issue would go away and it will take months to happen again. But of recent, it has become frequent to the point that I hate driving the car. I was referred to an auto transmission mechanic who scanned the car and told me it's the valve body. He said current is not reaching one of the solenoid valve due to a broken flex wire and advised me to change the valve body of the gear box.

Last night I did some research about it and discovered my car has entered what they called "limp mode". According to what I read, they said when a car enters limp mode, the culprit is usually from the brainbox.

Right now, I am confused and don't know what to do. Please, is there anyone in the house who had experienced this particular problem (gear stuck in 3rd gear and won't go beyond or below gear 3 when you shift to Drive) and what did you do to get it fixed? I wouldn't want any mechanic to carryout guess work on the car to avoid spending unnecessarily. Country hard, money no dey to chop, talk more of spending it on a car. Make una help a brother, pls. Thank you.

Since google told you it’s from t he brainbox, go and replace ur brain box na
Even if you’re being curious, why not ask for the error code and search the meaning online

The car is auto and I can also use it as manual because it has the plus ➕ and minus ➖ sign beside the *D*. So when I shift to *D*, I can check which gear the car is in by switching to manual mode. Got it?

Ok you mean when you shift to D and do the normal addition and subtraction to gear 3. You can do the manual + to shift above gear 3!?

Not really, the car has manual mode (+&-) beside the *D*. So when u want to know which gear the car is, just switch to manual mode u will see the current gear number (1,2,3...as the case maybe) on ur car dashboard

When you shift to *D*, u push the lever slightly to the left to engage in manual mode (+or-) from your dash, instead of showing letter *D*, you will see either 1, 2 or 3, depending on the current gear the car is in

Manually you can't go pass 3 in that mode.

Just use auto (D) to drive pass gear 3.

The brainbox has been contaminated,the expensive way to surmount this issue is to buy a new brainbox which the market value as at now is currently 130k in ladipo.

In the current brainbox of your Kia rio,the ic called tle2288r must be replaced along with the defective capacitors.then your car will function normal.i know a guy at ladipo who repairs it I can link u if you care,tho his price will be around 18k.

And also you will buy sp111 AT fluid,drain the old fluid and use recommended fluid,just four quarts only ,a quart is 4k.i can link you to the seller in olanibi street ladipo.forget what that mechanic is telling you, don't waste your money

Abort this mission,Ur gear is fine ,only drain and refill with sp3 or sp4 ATF.

By the way if you put it in reverse,do you notice a shift shock

This is very helpful, sir....I really appreciate. But the issue now is I don't reside in Lagos. Maybe I will find an expert around here in the north to help fix the ic in the brainbox . As for the ATF, I can get that here. Thank u very much

The only thing I notice is the car will either jerks forward or backward as I shift btw *D* and *R* respectively. I don't know if that's what you are talking about?

Replace ECU. Common problem on that year model of Kia. Best way to go brand new. There is a reason. Some repairs are just common sense. My 100 cent

Check "a2z mechanics p0748" on YouTube,they are strictly Hyundai mechanics, though they speak Indian,to know more about the issue, don't let anyone touch your valve body (gear)or open it o.it is very costly to replace even more than ECU.i repeat only drain and refill with recommended Hyundai mobis fluid.the same ECU was around 90k just last year but now due to dollar rise it goes for 130k.

That should be Ur last resort if you can't find somebody to help you use soldering iron to replace the defective IC and capacitors
