Question is, when did the US consulate become an investigation agency? If you send a request to them, the best they could do is direct your enquiry to the relevant government agency. They don't conduct checks themselves and issue clearance, that's not their job.

That not withstanding, entering into a plea bargain to forfeit assets also is an indication of guilt. You don't forfeit assets you worked hard and earned, where did he get the money from? How much was his salary?
