Job Interview Questions and Answers Series (2)

This series aims to outline some techniques for coping with interview questions that you might face. It is meant to give you ideas and a good perspective on how to answer questions during interviews.

Likely Questions You Might Be Asked

6. Tell Me What You Know About This Company.
Do your homework before you go to any job interview. Whether it's being the Vice President of Marketing or the mail room clerk, you should know something about the company or business you're going to work for.
What is the latest development in the company? Has this company been in the news lately? Who are the people in the company you should know about? These are some of the things you need to know before going for any interview.
Do the background work, it will make you stand out as someone who comes prepared, and is genuinely interested in the company and the job.

7. What is Your Greatest Weakness?
This question is often dreaded by job candidates, the key to answering this question is to be honest yet strategic. Your answer to this question is expected to show the hiring manager that you are self-aware, thoughtful and proactive about your strengths and weaknesses.

8. Why Do You Want to Work at X Company?
This should be directly related to question 6. Any research you've done on the company should have led you to the conclusion that you'd want to work there. After all, you're at the interview, right? Put some thought into this answer before you have your interview, mention your career goals and highlight forward-thinking goals and career plans.

9. How Did You Hear About The Position?
Another seemingly innocuous question, this is actually a perfect opportunity to stand out and show your passion for and connection to the company. For example, if you found out about the gig through a friend or professional contact, name drop that person, then share why you were so excited about it. If you discovered the company through an event or article, share that. Even if you found the listing through a random job board, share what, specifically, caught your eye about the role.

10. Why Are You Looking (Or Why Did You Leave Your Last Job)?
This should be a straightforward question to answer, but it can trip you up. Presumably you are looking for a new job (or any job) because you want to advance your career and get a position that allows you to grow as a person and an employee. It's not a good idea to mention money here, it can make you sound mercenary. And if you are in the unfortunate situation of having been downsized, stay positive and be as brief as possible about it. If you were fired, you'll need a good explanation. But once again, stay positive.

Job Interview Questions and Answers Series (3)

This series aims to outline some techniques for coping with interview questions that you might face. It is meant to give you ideas and a good perspective on how to answer questions during interviews.

Likely Questions You Might Be Asked

11. Why Should We Hire You?
This question seems forward and of great advantage for you. This question gives you the opportunity to sell yourself and your skills to the hiring manager. Your job here is to craft an answer that covers three things: that you can not only do the work, you can deliver great results; that you'll really fit in with the team and culture; and that you'd be a better hire than any of the other candidates. When answering this question, try not to feel too confident and pompous.

12. What Relevant Experience Do You Have?
For an employer to ask this question, they expect you to have bags of related experience in the position you are applying for. If you do have the experience you should mention it all. But if you're switching careers or trying something a little different, your experience may initially not look like it's matching up. That's when you need a little honest creativity to match the experiences required with the ones you have. People skills are people skills after all, you just need to show how customer service skills can apply to internal management positions, and so on.

13.What Motivates You to Do a Good Job?
The answer to this one is not money, even if it is. You should be motivated by life's noble pursuits. You want recognition for a job well done. You want to become better at your job. You want to help others or be a leader in your field. Avoid introducing money into the conversation, this will not speak well of you.

14. Are You a Good Team Player?
There is only one answer to this question every employer will want to hear - "Yes, I am." You may want to mention what part you like to play in a team though; it's a great chance to explain that you're a natural leader.

15. Clarification
Often times, an opportunity is provided for an applicant to ask questions from the recruiters/employers for the purpose of clarification. To avoid wrong perception as not being intelligent, it is advisable for applicants to avoid asking questions that are of little or no relevance to the organisation. In case there are no questions to be asked, do make it clear there are no questions that you have being thoroughly briefed with detailed information.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS/WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS: Right now(In the short-term), I am looking to expand my skillset in accounts related roles and learn more about the industry. Eventually(in the long term), I’d like to move into a more senior role in Accounting, which is one reason why this company is appealing to me, as the offer seems to offer employees room to grow internally, which is something that I really value.
DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION FOR ME: Say something
(1)You’ve provided a thorough overview of the role. One thing I was wondering was whether employees have the opportunity to pursue professional development opportunities, like attending conferences or taking an online class to develop their skill sets?
(2)When can I start?(this question shows confidence)
ARE YOU MOBILE?: They want to know if you're free to relocate. If possible, simply say yes.
CAN YOU TELL A LIE TO PROTECT THE INTEREST OF THIS COMPANY?: As a professional I will do anything & everything "within my power" to protect the internet of the company. N.B- Within my power is an Open Statement, that means if you can lie, you will. If you can't lie, you won't.
HOW MANY BOYFRIENDS DO YOU HAVE?: They want to know how sociable you are, reply by saying - I have many friends and if given the opportunity to work here, I will make sure they do biz with this company.
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS COMPANY?: Give a brief description of the company and it's operations.

There were years jobs were waiting for you before graduation when leaders refused to loot, there were abundant companies, offices and firms to work.

We are now in the years where HR is king and they are all motivational speakers just because some people looted the fortune of the country abroad. Imagine the jobs that would have been created ( the way OBJ created jobs in telecom) if we have 20 functional refineries, 10 steel plants, intra and inter city railway, state of the art mega hospitals in each senatorial district, mega farms etc.

Sometimes you ask where are the jobs they are advertising? How many vacancies compared to more than 300,000 graduates produced annually?

There are very few white collar jobs created annually in Nigeria while there are no records in most cases.

See the record of jobs created in US by each president, but in Nigeria, what we have most are the number of companies that close down.

All these interview questions are not for children of politicians, as they always find as slot for them in federal offices or they send them abroad.

We need to chase away all these thieves called politicians who keeps Nigeria in massive unemployment.

Noted!
I hope the job salary will worth half a mil.. if not they should just ask direct questions and train their new employers afterwards. Some employers just answer some questions for answering sake, they don't really mean all they say.
