They probably have to prove themselves in training at least. IF they are struggling in training against friendly opposition with less to and less to lose it might be unwise to send them out in a competitive match.
The only problem is I don’t think Mainoo and Iqbal would have been struggling so bad against the 1st team in training.

What I don’t agree with him about is that 3rd place issue. I would rest the 1st team starters and play the bench players. We can’t afford any more injuries to starters before the final.

All these are excuses. City have 6 wins and 2 draws against the top 6 this season. If you think United has been good against the top teams this season then I have a bridge to sell you. Tell us about the performance not just the results were we packed bus and waited for counter attacks like a mid table team. We scrap by Liverpool 2:1 while they dominated and demolished us 7:0. We scrap by Manchester city 2:1 with a dubious offside decision while dey dominated us and scored 6 which could be 7 or 8 in the reverse leg. Arsenal dominated and demolished us and could have scored 4 to 5 goals when they won at Emirates. Newcastle dominated us at Wembley and at their home. It could have been 4 or 5 as well. Brighton did the same thing. Infact all our wins against the top teams this season has been with luck that's why we are last when it comes to head to head against the top 6 teams. Dead Barca is the only top team we beat comfortably. Same Barca that Bayern and inter Milan flogged this season.
