Mitterand did more than this when IBB visited in the 80s. Even some francophone presidents get this kind of honour. I stopped being moved by this symbolism after Ghaddafi visited Europe and received a royals welcome and then months later got bursted by the same France and Italy that recieved him like a king.

France has this culture of royal hosting African leaders but also has one of the worst brutal histories in Africa. The moment asiwaju realizes that France can't be recognized as a true dependable ally, the better it'd be for him going forward. What was it Mali, Niger, and Burkina and even Senegal saw that made them pivot from France?

I just wonder for Nigerians. It's like we will never have sense. They should go back in history and see how France welcomed African leaders from the Francophone countries, no different from this reception. They do that to give you a sense if grandor while ripping you. France is simply not a friend to any African country. They were friends to qadaffi, but were the ones that started bombing him to kill him to prevent the world knowing he sponsored Nicolas Sarkozy with $50m. Go and see how they cleaned out Niger, Mali, Chad etc. The massacres in Algeria. They made African countries in return for independent sign that they will never have central banks, all their money policies will be set by france, their cental banks will be in France. All their resources will have a French first right of refusal.
