What I observed from the look of MAKOKO is the lack of structure and organisation in Nigeria, if you look at the Ganvie closely, you would see how neat and orderly it looks.

Having interacted with some of these guys as they are my customers, they do complain of how strict enforcement of environmental laws is in Benin but not the same in Nigeria, one was talked about giving Nigerian personnel bribe but can't do same in Benin.
If you go deep into this issue, you will see that they have been warned severally about their push into the Lagoon. I saw some Video where they are told not to go beyond some distance into the Lagoon but if you look at it critically, they are almost at the edge of the 3rd Mainland Bridge and almost beneath the High Tension Cables!

What they can't do in Ganviè is what they are doing at Makoko.

Hmmmm 🤔 Do we really have a humane and responsible government?

That area about to be sand filled and turned into luxurious residential area.

No!

The current governor is taking that place as a retirement gift.

Don’t tell anyone I told you!

I'm 100% sure that my Badagrian brothers and to an extent the Ilajes will be ones who have made the place their homes...

Reminiscent of Otodo-Gbame of those days, I think it's close to a decade since that demolition happened since then there's absolutely nothing to write home about it, same script here.

Meanwhile, folks from Ganvie, Benin Republic are also saying hi.
do they copulate on the water houses?

Changes is inevitable, if you can't stay in Lagos then relocate back to your village.
Lagos should be able to accommodate for everyone, because everyone needs each others product.

That's a very good decision and development by the Government....

Mega city like Lagos shouldn't have such place as a community....

Moving them to a better place should be part of the plan before demolition too...
Lol, plan to move the poor in Nigeria? 😂 🤣

Nigeria government duty is to demolished and you find your way.

Let's be honest that place was horrible and disgusting.

The only wrong government could have done here would be if notice was not given and relocation assistant was not rendered.

Same people criticizing government for this are same that use places like this to point out how Lagos is dirty and smelly.
Nobody is against the demolition, not taking the residents to an alternate place or give them relief is what people are against.

That place is more than a century, it's home to generations. You don't just go there and demolish it with zero plan for the inhabitants.

Yes, are you against it?

Absolutely, they were already building on the paths of Gedu that the relocated sawmill used to move plank.
I was even wandering if they did consider a possible evacuation like that of the sawmill

Some of them are Nigeria Eguns but majority are from Benin, amongst them are Fons, Ajase, Anago etc. And also most of them were probably born here in Nigeria.

This place could have been civilized and made a tourist attractions, but hell no

Where will this people go to now

I feel pity for them
So called Lagos owners cannot make such a place civilized. Can't you see evidence of their extreme unsanitary habits. They should go back to their states , it's not far 😆
