We have to revert to our own culture and tradition before we can move from the state we are right now ..Christianity and western culture influence have done us much harm than Good . Western culture suppresses the men give the women so called women right "where as women have always been seen as sacred to us".they let them know they have a right to sample varieties of joysticks as possible before they marry , Now is gay right .

When gun power musketeer and canons were introduced to us ..The iron workers "Ogun worshipers then were fabricating the guns and canons and so many intricate iron amenities..2013 They are so many churches we find it hard to produce tooth pick , matches . Religion is understanding and control of the material world .

yeahh sure we will. start from yourself, then your family, then your community and let it spread..

are you mad bro

what tribe is Yoruba if its Arab of Adnanite or Qahtanite origin? can you recite the names of your Arab ancestors

yoruba or ya'araba are ya'arab bin sanhaaja bin alhaafi bin qadha'a bin malik bin amru bin murra bin malik bin himyar bin saba bin yashjab bin y'arab bin qahtaan bin hud
as is professed by the illustrious imaam adam abdullah ilori yoruba are the ya'araba of west africa a branch of the ya'arab north of them , those who traveled from yemen and the hijaaz to the african continent before islaam or the sanhaaja berbers this is shown by historical, cultural, and linguistic witnesses . the tribe arrived in the present area in two migrations between the 8th and 10th century c.e.

There is a third type of fellata(fulani)who follows the city way of life and they never stressed their language , they are the yoruba or as they are famously called in the sudaan iyaal aich(people who live off of bread) they are in the talas biram and quraidh regions(darfur). An exmple of the yoruba is the islamic caller Salih bello and Doctor Anas Salih Bello. They are the yoruban fulani as my father told me.

go kill yourself. Darfur is in SUdan. Yoruba are not descended from Berbers and Berbers are not Arabs. and I dont get where you brought Fula into the equation.

and if they are descended from Himyar and Qahtan, then they are not from the Hejaz. so your entire geneology is wrong.

God bless you my reasonable brother. All those theories that Africans and the world migrated from the middle-east arew fallacies. The Yoruban- Middle-east theory was made by the Sultan of Sokoto, Bello. Its is common for Islamic Africa to trace their orogin to the middle east. Abrahamic faiths support.

According to tradition history, there were no eastern connection with oduduwa. This is where the benin people compound the fallacies of Elkarlarderan on. They just bring some few words that sound/ mean the same in both languages; then they conclude, not knowing of the various trade Yoruba had with Islamic Africa like Hausa.

As a Yoruba person, I debunk this stupid claims.

Thank you for the correction, I felt there was something wrong with that spelling, didn't bother to check.

Now, look at it. The Fulani captured Ilorin. How did that affect a place like Ibadan, Ogbomosho or even Lagos Island to the point that the Yoruba population is split roughly 50-50 between Islam and Christianity? The descedants of Alimi who outmaneuvered Afonja to become what is now known as the Emir of Ilorin have never exercised effective political or military control over these places.

As much as the Yoruba do not see religion or faith as an issue of discord, I do not think Yoruba is divided 50-50 Christian -Muslims which means you are leaving out traditional adherents which will be up to 2-5% of the population. Besides, Yoruba Christians seem to be more than 50% more so on the premise of Pentecostal Movements that have become so popular that even more than half of Yoruba now belong(I stand to be corrected)
There is hardly any Yoruba state or town or city that today is overwhelming Moslem not even Ilorin ! taking that muslims may be in the majority if actually that is true but not overwhelming!
Thank you.

its quite possible Islam has been in Yorubaland since it (Islam)'s inception.

No one can really pinpoint how or when Islam entered Yorubaland anyway, all most people know of is Ilorin which was conquered by the Fulani at the request of their Yoruba allies.

there is no evidence of islam so far back. islam didnt even enter Zanzibar until the Omani conquest. talk less about SOuth Sudan etc.

islam entered Hausaland only in the 11th Century.

well, my post was, Islam may have been in Yorubaland right from it [Islam]'s inception.

not sure what you interpreted that to mean.

a mosque in tunisia was built in 670 AD, shows muslims were present there and beginning to be active by that time.

islam truly came to Yorubaland only with the Fulani jihad.

Malian Islamic travelers started visiting Old Oyo around the 15th century and a mosque was built solely for them. Conversion didn't start well until the 18th-19th centuries.

conversion of the rulers perhaps.

i havent seen anything to suggest Islam was not in Yorubaland before then.

of course i could be wrong?

however, the way yorubas practice Islam suggests a very strong affinity with the religion which would seem to predate the modern conversion most people refer to.

its like italians and catholicism.

There were moslem scholars in Yorubaland before the Jihad. And since the Jihad was unsuccessful in Yorubaland, it could not be responsible for the penetration of Islam in Yoruba land. The invitation of Alimi by Afonja is what led to the adoption of Islam in Ilorin. Prior to going to Ilorin, Alimi had been a scholar and had toured many other Yoruba towns and villages. There had also been an influx of Kanuri muslim scholars into Yorubaland before Alimi.

wheres your proof of Kanuri muslim scholars in Yorubaland?

Also they just toured, not converted people. There is no evidence of mosques prior to the Fulani jihad , except the one in Oyo built for foreigners, in Yorubaland.

also the Kanuri first met islam along with us Hausa, in the 11th Century. Added to that, there was strong local opposition against islam in the beginning.

THere is no evidence of islam in Yorubaland upto the 16 th century, talk less of 7th century.

Also the Yoruba are highly communal people. it would not be wise to remain a minority and talk against the Gods in those days.

Solagberu, the leader of Yoruba Muslims at Oke Suna, was allegedly Kanuri. If the Jihad failed after Ibadan defeated the Caliphate at Osogbo in 1840, how then can the Jihad be responsible for the development of mosques? You need to chill down on this talk of Jihad as if the Fulani conquered the Yoruba and then subsequently built mosques. Mosques started to appear gradually in Yorubaland and they weren't well developed initially.

Islam may have been introduced into Hausaland at the same time as the Kanuri but it was much more accepted in the Kanuri empire than in Hausaland, hence the Jihad against the Hausa states. The penetration of Islam in Kanuri also helped in curbing Fulani schemes for Bornu-Kanem empire.

Tunisia is in North Africa and the presence of Islam in one country/region doesn't automatically mean its presence in other parts. There was Islam in Bornu, why was there no Islam in the Eastern part of Nigeria?
