The Nobel Peace Prize has been given to human rights activist from Pakistan Malala Yousafzai and children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi from India.

The award’s committee said the pair was awarded “for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education”.

Kailash Satyarthi, 60, headed various forms of peaceful protests, following the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain.

17-year-old Malala Yousafzai has become the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The average age of Nobel Peace Winners is 61, earlier the youngest laureate was 32 years old.

Malala came to be an international representative for the right of all children, first of all girls, to go to school and get an education after being shot at point-blank range by the Pakistani Taliban in 2012 for speaking out against them.

Pakistan rights activist Malala Yousafzai arrived to Nigeria on July, 13, in solidarity with the over 200 Chibok school girls who were abducted by Islamist militants. She met the organizers of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign and relatives of the abducted school girls. Malala asked the President Goodluck Jonathan to meet relatives of the kidnapped girls.

Malala’s visit sparked strong criticism of Goodluck Jonathan’s inaction to curb violence by Boko Haram, especially in the wake of the kidnappings.

congrats to them. They've indeed achieved greatness, even though they weren't born great.

True talk.
Achieving greatness @17 years of age is something to be proud of.
Plus she's actually the youngest person to win that prize.
