I believe it is high time the regulatory agencies if there is any should shut down the website as d site is full of thieves and 419ers looking forward to dupe innocent nigerians. The website owners don't scrutinize or verify adverts on their website. They are not bothered by the atrocities being committed on their site.
I posted my car on the website yesterday afternoon, only for me to find out that one balogun james had re-advertise my car with lower price, can you just imagine??
Please, I implore nairalanders not to patronise the website again, let us stick to our wonderful nairaland.
These set of people can get one into problem.
Am going to remove my ads from the yeye website.

Report the site to @MrAyeDee. He should be able to do something.

You can also try my humble classifieds ads site Kuluso.Com

I guarantee you won't find scams on there as I do the best I can to vet it.

OP, you cannot rule out the occurrence of spammers and fraudsters on such classified sites.
best is for one to use wisdom in your deals and I am sure that you are not the only one affected by this. besides, olx has a strong legal base hence it won't be a stroll in the park to bring d site down .

I have bought and sold several items on Olx I think cash on delivery should be strictly adopted after the item in question is tested, please why should a person be so gullible to pay for an item he/she has not even seen physically please let's be wise.

If shopping online makes one gullible, then pretty much the whole world is gullible. Virtually all transactions - banking, paying bills, taxing your car, renewing your driver's license or passport, booking travel tickets etc is done online these days.

I have been buying and selling on eBay since 2002, and have had no issues. The reason? Because eBay is pretty strict, and with PayPal, transactions are safe, as safe as buying online with a credit card. I have never used OLX, but from all accounts, there's very little vetting or other security measures in place. Merely placing a disclaimer on an online site is NOT enough.

One thing that I have observed here - if anyone complains about their bad experiences on OLX, they either get verbally abused, or they are labelled as gullible.

One part of your post caught my attention - people should NOT pay for items they have not physically seen, and cash on delivery should be adopted, after the said item is first "tested". Now tell me how practical that is?

Well said my Brother.

The secondary damage that the 419 charlatans have done to Nigeria is now just being felt.

Seem I'm the only lucky one here, just bought a DSTV decoder and Dish off OLX from one James in Ikotun yesterday.
Saw his ad few days ago ,I gave him a call to negotiate price, we reached an agreement and I promise to the items on Saturday.
Had a very tight schedule on Saturday therefore couldnt make it Ikotun, I called him yesterday Sunday and asked him to wait around for me.
I drove down to Ikotun in company of two of my friends, we met the guy, saw the items in good condition, paid and drove off.

I have made a chunk of deals on OLx and am yet to be scammed. The Simple rule is don't pay a dime until you physically see and examine the goods you want to buy, and as much as possible carry out your transaction somewhere open. QED.
Re: OLX Is The Most Useless Website by Btruth: 1:43pm On Oct 14, 2014
Could be bitter but the truth. Don't pay to anyone until you see the goods physically and you satisfied with before you commit your cash oooo.....lol. Be it OLX or BLX or PDP, don't pay until you see the said goods. Be wise!
