Exactly. And that is why rats now even dream of defeating an incumbent President in an election. They enjoy the dividends of the transformation agenda in our democratic space yet they'll never give credit to whom it is due.

Who says an incumbent cannot be defeated. Even a well orchestrated scientific rigging cannot save GEJ come 2015. You seem not to be connected with current realities of our political journey as a nation.

I guess you were on the moon when Ribadu got sold out. Let me ask you this, what exactly is stopping Buhari from anointing a candidate? Does he believe that he is the only one capable of doing the job? For crying out loud, the man is almost 80!!!
Ribadu got sold out? Lol, was he removed from the Acn ticket? Were you barred from voting him?

Nigerian are very funny.

Electing Buhari would be retrogressive, even with all of GEJ's failings I would not support an ageing man whose only claim to credibility is 'integrity' from way back in the early-mid 80's when probably half the Nigerians alive right now were not even born.

I don't really doubt his integrity, but clearly we need far more than just integrity at this moment. Buhari's utterances on violence in the North are not exactly palatable (albeit blown out of proportion by the PDP). Nonetheless he is not a suitable candidate - he is from a different era and should be mentoring younger candidates.

I think we can do much, much, better.
Debosky , God bless your brain .... This is exactly my thought !! .... Nigeria should stop recycling all these old goons who would revisit the problems of the 80s and bring those nasty Era I wasn't even born to my pleasant Youthful days .... I've you ever heard Gowon speaking without mentioning Biafra , Obj and his Military Era , Babangida and SAP/June 12 ..... I think Buhari should provide the muscle for Fashola,Oshiomole,Ribadu,Elrufai,Kwankasiya,Wamakko,Tambuwal,Rochas and brokered International alliances for 'em with his Military connection also He can woed one/two of PDP muscle(Cabals) like of away from PDP and build a rock for APC ......

Buhari can never win election in Nigeria, I like his person but my principle that I've always campaign is:

as far as the future of Nigeria is concerned it is in the hands of our Youthful Governors majority of whom are in APC ..... Pick any of them from lagos/Imo upto Kano/sokoto and lets see the change we all yearn for if not Buhari or Atiku will make GEJ have a cleanzhit beyond Fayose's success against Fayemi !!

Buhari is 72 now, he will b 73 by 2015 and 77 by 2019. by then he would hav shaped the polity and handover to a true generation

Mandella was 76 by 1994, he was 80 by 1994, he would hav been 84 should he starts his second tenure. Yet he ignored the pressure for second term. today he is the world celebrated model. those claiming Buhari is old does so in sentiment. you should pray and thank God he stil has Nigeria intetest at hearth. the problems in this country needs sombody like him

please my brother, i respect ur opinion buylt support buhari this time around i beg you. before 2011 election i campaignd for GEJ thinking hes the messiah but he failed. cant you see happenings in this country. are you satisfied?
Abeg suport another govt for change. lets still test APC n compare the difference instead of failed pdp for 16yrs

Everyone knows that with Buhari as President, your wealth will not protect you from your criminal actions. Ask Umaru Dikko if you doubt me. It is the patriotic duty of every Nigerian to elect Buhari.
Buhari should go and take a seat. For all we know,he is a bokoharam sympathizer. He is talking tough now because of the upcoming election.

Well-said OAM4J. I have the same opinion more or less. You and others know I supported Ribadu passionately in 2011 yet was always, even back then, approving of a merger than would see Ribadu step down for Buhari. Unfortunately that did not come to pass and Buhari contested under the newly formed CPC.

Every Nigerian will know that what Buhari achieved, i.e 12 million votes, was commendable given the reality of the day. The CPC was a brand new Party with minimal influence at the time. Buhari was underfunded and under-supported by many of our influential politicians whereas today the likes of Saraki, Amaechi, Aregbesola, Fashola and many, many, many more will be behind him and working passionately for his win if he becomes the APC candidate. He will also be the candidate of the biggest opposition Party in Nigeria which is an entirely different kettle of fish in relation to the past where the ACN and CPC split votes competing against Jonathan. Now it will boil down to Nigerians choosing between GEJ or Buhari. Imperfect Buhari may be but not many doubt his ability to fight corruption. Not many can accuse Buhari of crass materialism. No one can claim he covets private jets, 1 billion Naria food. No one can ever postulate that Buhari will profligately take huge entourages of politicians across the world on meaningless Jamborees at the expense of Nigeria. What Nigeria needs now is what Buhari has in abundance.

The SW was apathetic in 2011 and the few who showed up voted for GEJ in the majority because of the belief he represented "transformation" and a departure from the past. We all know this is not the case today. Without mincing words, it is now crystal clear GEJ is possibly the most corruption-friendly President Nigeria has ever had. Haven seen the worst of GEJ, I can easily see a lot of Yorubas overcoming their bias against Buhari to vote for him because they now know it is unthinkable to give GEJ another 4 years with which he will use to destroy Nigeria further. The time is right for Buhari and events have converged correctly to mean his chances of landslide victory has never been this bright if everyone play their part.

God bless you my brother. Nice and precise post. Buhari with no or less support was able to pull 12 million votes in 2011
now the game is different. its will be tough this time since jonathan of 2011 is not jonathan of 2015. i cannot suport jona again even if i suportd him 2011.

If you can tell me how Buhari intends to get past our ridiculously inept and corrupt law-makers I just might agree with you.

My dear lady, the profligate maintenance of our legislators can be tackled with many approaches which can bear fruit. You must first remember that it is the huge remuneration of our legislators that Nigerians are angry with and not the corruption they participate in. Executive and institutional corruption(NNPC, NPF, Army, Customs, Immigration/border control et al) is , by far, the biggest killer of Nigeria. It is executive corruption behind the fuel subsidy scam that saw trillions stolen with no one punished to date. It is executive and institutional corruption behind the blatant stealing and lack of transparency in the NNPC that has gulped mind-boggling billions of dollars over several years with Nigeria having nothing to show for such. It is executive and institutional corruption ruining our armed forces. It is executive corruption entirely responsible for the SURE-P scam that has delivered nothing when the original argument was that savings from subsidy removal will transform Nigeria drastically. I could go on all day but the bottom line is that executive and institutional corruption is killing Nigeria and that is what Buhari must tackle first and foremost.

The unreasonably bloated cost of maintaining the NASS can be packaged as part of broad and holistic reforms to change the cost of governance in Nigeria. That is a veritable way forward. Because GEJ deliberately fails to address this issue does not mean Buhari will not and that the situation with the NASS is irreversible. The APC has also said it plans to look into this issue if able to get a majority in the upper and lower house. That Nigeria runs a hideously bloated arrangement gulping 65-70% in recurrent spending yearly is not disputed. Google it and you will see that there are tonnes of suggestions as to how to reverse this. Political will is needed which we know Buhari will operate with. That is another big plus in favour of Buhari. He is not the type to come in and be bullied by Senators, Governors et al as is the case with GEJ. With holistic and exemplary cost-cutting starting from the Presidency and the executive arm, in a period of 'national emergency' cost cutting reforms such as we saw after the credit crunch in Britain, the legislators will have no choice but to fall in line or risk the anger of Nigerians. Buhari is one of the few that can lead this charge.

He is no doubt a popular candidate and one capable of wresting votes from Goofluck, which is why my preference is for him to use his might to anoint a younger, more vibrant and articulate candidate

It is not as simple as that. Supporting a leader, within a complex and divided nation such as Nigeria, is not as easy as handing over a baton. This is not the time to take such a gamble only to then fail and thus hand Nigeria into the hands of those who have nearly run us aground already. What you ask for could easily be achieved via leveraging on the popularity and vote-winning ability of Buhari. We could do all we can to get Buhari to Aso Rock and then be assured of a vibrant replacement for him in perhaps 4 years or we can do as you say, gamble with a Ribadu-type as we did in 2011, and lose again to the greedy cabal killing Nigeria simply because us the educated elite want "young and vibrant" without the humility to accept this is not what majority of Nigerians will go for electorally. Have we learnt no lesson with the outing of Ribadu? We can gamble again egotistically and then may simply not have a nation called Nigeria much longer the way the present lot are carrying on. The issue is for educated folks to humbly key into what is required for the urgent 'rescue mission' Nigeria cannot afford to get wrong. Under Buhari you are guaranteed to see the "young, vibrant and articulate" leaders you hanker for everywhere and in transformational/important positions. If we gamble as you say and lose, then it will be a repeat of 2011 where GEJ came to power and simply flooded important positions with his inept cronies and minions to the detriment of Nigeria.

I agree with some of your views even though am not sure Kwankaso or Wamakko can pull the numbers Buhari can pull especially in the North. My Uncle lives in Kaduna and he told me there is no politician with half of Buhari's influence especially in the core Norths. They just trust the man rightly or wrongly. The common saying in the North is that "All that Buhari needs to give me is his word and I can take it to the bank".

But the point is, in the event that Buhari gets the APC ticket ahead of Kwankaso or Wamakko, should we not support him knowing that failure not to do so means continuation of 'stealing is not corruption'?
