Good day fellow nairalanders. I am a Babcock University Graduate,I studied a science related course (I am scared to give details)please you are our last hope of getting this message
across to the world as all other methods have failed, please do not let
us down,we beg you in the name of our Lord,JESUS CHRIST.the message
goes thus:"On June 1st 2014,BU had it's graduation ceremony which was
slated to commence by 7 a.m. and end by 1 p.m. according to the
program. In the course of the program, some dignitaries spoke for more
time than what was allocated to them and this made the program
continue even an hour after it was supposed to stop. Graduands had no
choice but to walk out of the program because their parents and well
wishers who had come to share in their joy needed to go back home in
time. The arena in which the program held had very few students left
in it,the Deputy Vice Chancellor by name Professor Iheanyichukwu Okoro
then took to the stadium and said that those of us who left the
program would be punished (those that stayed signed out on a piece of
paper).
On October 22,2014. I went to get my certificate only to be
informed by a staff at the registry that I had to pay #25,000 for
leaving a program which extended longer than it was meant to. I am so
confused and shocked,I have tears in my eyes as I type this because
this university is exploiting us.They know that we must pay this money
before NYSC which commences on November 5th because a certificate is a
prerequisite for being admitted into NYSC.Approximately 2,400 Students
graduated and not up to 400 signed, let's do the math
(2,000*#25,000= #50,000,000), even after we paid exorbitant fees for
our four/five year sojourn in the school.
We have no other place to run to for justice ,please we deeply
believe that if you publish this story on your widely read website, the
school will reconsider their judgement and scrap or atleast reduce the
amount to #5,000. You are our last hope for justice ,please do not
let us down.If you think we are lying, ask any Babcock University Student that graduated this year (June 1st, 2014). PLEASE HELP US TO SPREAD THIS NEWS,USE ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS!!!!!
Yours Sincerely,
A FRUSTRATED BABCOCK UNIVERSITY GRADUATE WHO WILL NOT STAND BY AND
BE EXPLOITED BY A "CHRISTIAN" INSTITUTION

I would have supported your cause, but for a reason. ....your school organised a program for you, you decided to leave to snap pictures and eat leaving the guests to talk to plastic chairs as what they have to say wasn't important. ...assuming there was to be an exam after, would you have left? Assuming it was a 4 unit course, would you have left? And you have the right to come here and be screaming Christian school. .....Na the Christian vex me self, them force you to buy form? Them come your house come call you? 25k might be excessive, you guys need to plead not be shouting Christian school. I for like see nda student waka leave parade ground on pop day o, cause the speech too long. Mtchew.

The students' behaviour was rude. But the school is also at fault because they did not keep to time. Even dignitaries should learn to keep to time when they give speeches (which are most times unnecessary stories about themselves). Keeping to time shows discipline. Guests who come from far places and need to go back to their various destinations shouldn't be kept beyond the time a program is supposed to last. People have other engagements to attend to also.

I think the punishment should be reviewed to something lighter but if they refuse, unfortunately you will have to pay so that you don't waste one year at home.

Tell dt to ur sug but ie if u ve one my bro u attended a glorified primary school. Jst pay d 25k and get ur certificate asap bc agitation may lead u into a bigger mess. wat if u guys certificate were to be seized for one year. U would ve been begging to pay 100k by nw.

In a private uni abi glorified primary sch wateva rules d owners make is usually final angry undecided dts y stds can't use mobile phones in convenant uni

As u r here do u kw hw many of ur colleagues ve paid d 25k n collected their certificate already. Stds of private uni r usually babies n ajibos whose parent won't cry over 25k. Nothing happenin in private uni is just includin d first class they give to u guys to compensate u for d high fees u paid grin

its compulsory because its a private uni, am sure the op knows this. If it were to be a federal sch than the OP might have a case, because there are no rules or decipline what so ever, if you like attend, if you like don't. And in my opinion, its better not to even attend any program at all than leaving b4 the end. It doesn't just make sense undecided

It's a private uni,so this won't help...once they've made up their mind, there's no stopping them...since you could afford to go to babcock,25k shouldn't be a problem. After paying almost a million per session, you won't go for NYSC for 25k?

PS* There are rules and regulations in federal schools as well, and some level of discipline, just a little more freedom* If you were one of the parents and had a flight to catch or some other pressing issues to attend to, would you have stayed? If all the parents had left, who would the school punish? Call it rude but I like the fact that the graduating students bruised the school's ego by walking out on a meaningless program.

interesting. I can understand how embarrassing it must be for the V.C and other dignitaries to see students walking out of the hall en masse without a care in the world. However, the school also has to shoulder a large part of the blame. We have a very bad time culture in Nigeria. A program that is supposed to end at 1pm shouldn't have gone farther. For a private school that insists on sticking to rules and regulations they have no excuse. Even if they started late they could have shortened the time of the speeches to make up the time.

When you entered the school, you swore to abide by the rules and regulations. Well they just made another rule that you have to pay before getting your certificate and you have to abide by it. A parent who can afford to send his/ her child to a private uni and pay millions should be bigger than 25k.

you can also go to court, if you don't mind spending the next 12yrs without your certificategrin

U gave an incoherent comparison.... Are you going to take ur parents to exam hall?.... Moreso, since d program started early, nothing stops dem from ending d program promptly.... Some parents might av a plane to catch or some other pressing issues. what is the punishment of d school for wasting d tym of students....... They claim dey av discipline, rules and regulation....all na watch... Dey are jst totalitarians, dictators.... I don't blame dem sha... I blame d watery nature of awa judicial system.... Christian or no christian, dis punitive measure is outrageous.....op try talk to ur parents perhaps dey might talk to ur sch management or jst pay.....
