Can someone please educate me on how to use this dropbox service to renew my B1/B2 visa? Having some difficulties here. Please. angry

More importantly, can I apply for a renewal when my visa is still valid (but only for 1-2 months)?

Good day VO and all,

My Question is in 3 parts please:

1. My family (Myself, Wife and daughter) have a b1b2 visa that will be expiring in September, do we wait till then to renew?, or is there a particular time frame before its been sent for renewal?

2. Since it was a family visa, do i send all our passports together or separately for renewal

3. I am a youth pastor in my church here in Nigeria and during our first visit in the united states, the church i attended (2014) filed an R1 visa for me but have been travelling to and fro united States afterwards with the b1b2 visa. Unfortunately, i was called by the church sometimes last month that the R1 visa was denied, does this have any effect on renewal of the family b1b2 visa. thank you

I have never applied for a visa before yet am have a drop box issue.each time I try to schedule an appointment and enter my receipt number they keep telling me that no valid record can be found for the entered receipt number, when I complained they said that it is Dropbox related issues. I don't understand and I really need to book an appointment. What should I do to correct the error??

Drop box is not for first timers, you use drop box when you are renewing your visa.

Dear Visa Officer. I have a B1B2 Visa which expired in February 2016. Its my 3rd 2 years B1B2.

I did not want to renew it for the following reason. My wife went to the US for summer vacation in 2015 July (exactly 1 year ago) with 4 of our kids all below 10 years old. Though the marriage had been shaking for 3 years prior to her vacation. When it was time to come back she refused. I threatened divorce and to my greatest surprise, she accepted it. I later learnt she was having an affair. We got divorced shortly and surprisingly its already 1 year now I saw my kids and I am alone. I did not want to go to the US again in order to get off the trauma. Worse part is I learnt she is now married in the US and has moved on with my kids. 2 of the kids are American Citizens while the other 2 are Nigerian citizens.

I have a lucrative business in the USA and I pay my US taxes in the last 3 years. I have an ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number) I have business Licenses too from the US authorities and I am actively running my office online and physically in the US.

My dilemma now is I have tried to get of my trauma and want to renew my US Visa (B1B2) through dropbox but when I got to a point in the DS160 form that asks if I do have family in the USA, I answered yes (trying to be honest) but now it further asks their status in the US. Now the truth is that I really do not know what kind of status my wife and 2 kids have. The options are Citizen, Greencard and I do not know. They left with B1B2 but it may be they changed status. The right answer is I really do not know. What is the appropriate answer to give here? The only circumstances that has changed in my application status since my last visa issuance are more money (income) grin and divorce cry. Will my divorce be a ground for denial particularly now that I do not have family ties to Nigeria? But I have a very good job with a fat Salary and a business empire in Nigeria which I cannot leave. I need to get to the US ASAP to sort out some Federal issues with some Government agencies as it relates to my business and there should be no room for denial at this stage.

Being frank with you, story doesn't sound convincing. Why did you not write officially to the U.S. Dept of State when your wife absconded with your kids to the States?

Dear VO,

Thanks for your candid opinion. I am not aware and did not think it necessary that I should report officially to the US Dept of State. I am not a lawyer. I just wanted to forget about her and move on as well. I wonder what will be the objective of reporting to the US Dept of State when I cannot take custody of the children. I have had a bad year too traumatic to complicate my life further and for the sake of the children I ignored many things.

Back to my question, should I abandon the visa renewal then since you opined that this true life story is not convincing. I need to be in the US soon to take care of business and some regulatory issues pertaining to my business. I have never stayed in the US for more than 14 days and do not intend to live there.

You can put in your application and be mindful not to misrepresent material fact!

Please I have the same question but a bit of expanded. Am told that the 10 findger started in 2010. Does it mean that all persons who got visa after then need to answer yes in ds 160 form? And also, am i to write a letter before I submit my passport at DHL? Thanks

Hello all,

Just curious..

Anyone ever been called for interview using dropbox?

Does the embassy return your passport back to dhl when you get called for interview or they hold on to it?

This is for a B1/B2 .. I would appreciate some response.

You will need to apply for dropbox alone provided your wifey has not been issued US Visa before, she would need to attend an interview.

For the dropbox. You only need the following
1. Passport with the last/current issued visa.(if passport has expired you need to go with new passport)
2. Passport Photograph
3. Dropbox letter
4. GTBank payment receipt
5. Printed DSform 160 confirmation page

@DHL wont receive receive any other documents.

However, for interview pls take all supporting documents. There is no thing as over documents. Its better to be over than under.
Best of luck

They do not hold on to it.... what they hold on to is all the document you submitted except your International passport and you will go to the U.S embassy with your international passport.

Seriously? Haven't seen it done this way. All my friends that were called in for interview didn't even see their passports till they went to the embassy.

Good day house.
It's my first time on Nairaland so please forgive any mistakes made or procedure not followed. I apologize in advance. I will like to make an inquiry about my visa renewal. I am currently on an F1 student visa to the United states. This visa expires in August 2017. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make a trip back in August because a new semester would be starting (Fall 2017). But I can make a trip to Nigeria earlier than August, sometime in May.

My inquiry is can I apply for a renewal of my visa 3 months prior to its expiry date? This is because it be more difficult to find the time to make a trip once the semester begins in August 2017. My second question is would I have to interview for the renewal or do I get the drop box option?

Thank you for your anticipated response.

Yes, you can apply for a renewal 3 months before the expiration of your visa. I did this and didn't have any problems at all.

I heard they have stopped dropbox and that one would have to appear for interview. You may want to call their customer care to be sure.
Re: U.S. Embassy Abuja New Procedure For Drop Box Renewals by tosyn0627: 3:56pm On Feb 01, 2017
Thank you @ SlowlybtSurely.
I did and just got a response. The drop box option is by case to case basis, that's what their service desk said. The answers to the scheduling questions determines if one would qualify for drop box or if one goes for an interview.
That's the reply I got from the Consulate this morning.
Thank you again.
